WHY MERLIN 3000 FOR PRESS BRAKES? SIMPLE......Simple ISB Merlin TX Merlin 3000 was designed specifically for press brakes. IT WORKS Press brakes are difficult machines to guard, simply because the part profile generally changes during the forming operation. Other standard light curtains used to protect the operator cannot accept different part profiles from step to step. DISPLAY BEAM DIAGNOSTICS Report the exact location of every blocked beam or show the total. CURTAIN STATUS Tri-colored LED on control and column. ALPHANUMERIC DISPLAY 40 character vaccum fluorescent PROGRAMMABLE JOBS Program, save and recall up to 243 jobs for press brake operations up to 16 steps per job available. Even do bumping operations. BLANKING FUNCTIONS LIMIT SET POINTS PASSWORD PROTECTION SAFE HAZARD MUTE/INTRLK BLANKING Programmable blanking. Select up to 3 independent floating beams. Restrict the area where floating and blanking beams are active. Lock out any function from unauthorized use.
HOW DOES MERLIN 3000 WORK? SIMPLE... PROGRAMMABLE BEAM BLANKING ISB Merlin TX Merlin 3000 will recognize the change in part-profile for up to 16 bends, and sequentially negate only those beams necessary for the current step....simple REMOTE LEARN FOOT SWITCH The blocking of more or fewer beams than programmed will cause Merlin 3000 to shut down making it difficult to fool. HOW IS MERLIN 3000 PROGRAMMED? SIMPLE... Select the CREATE mode and place the part in position for the first bend. Teach the part profile by pressing the remote learn foot switch. Cycle the press brake making the first bend. Position the part in place for the next bend and teach the profile with the remote learn foot switch. Cycle the press brake. Continue until the part is complete. WHAT IF THE PART DOES NOT STEADILY BRAKE THE PATH OF ONE BEAM?... SIMPLE... FLOATING BEAM The floating beam function allows for the slight mispositioning of the part by up to 3 beams. DESCRIPTION Once your part has been programmed, you can then store the program sequence in memory and recall it by using a 8 digit numeric code usually a drawing number. Merlin 3000 also has a RS232 communication port for remote storing of programs (soon to be available) SAFE HAZARD MUTE/INTRLK BLANKING
...Simple HOW DOES MERLIN 3000 ALLOW PART MOVEMENT DURING BENDING? SIMPLE... BUILT IN MUTING Merlin 3000 is interfaced to the machine control to receive signals when the ram is at the top position and 1/4 before bottom. Once at the 1/4 point, Merlin 3000 ignores beams interruption from the part moving upwards while being bent, and enables the ram to return to the top stop position. STOP SAFE BYPASS BENDING OF LARGE PARTS 1/4 LIGHT CURTAIN MUTE When the ram is in its top position, the light curtain is active. With hands outside the protective zone, the operator can cycle the press brake. Unintended interruption of the light curtain during the down-stroke will generate a stop signal. When a signal for the 1/4 point is received, the entire light curtain is muted. Therfore the bending motion of the part will not interfere with the operation of the press brake. BENDING OF SMALL PARTS STROKE STOP Hand must be kept outside the light curtain during the downstroke. Unintended interruption of the light curtain during the down-stroke will generate a stop signal. Small parts would be inserted and held at this point, allowing the part to be bent without interference.
MERLIN 3000 SAFETY FEATURES In addition to its redundent crosschecked microprocessor circuitry and captive contact relays, Merlin 3000 is designed with the following unique safety featues: Password: This allows supervision of all blanking functions. Checking of the top and mute signals...simple to prevent operators from muting the light curtain permanently. Checking of the beams blanked each step to prevent abuse by a permanent blockage. All beams programmed to be blanked, must be blocked by the part.
MERLIN 3000 SERIES UNIT DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES Merlin 3000 series light curtain has a programmable beam blank out system with job storage memory. Up to 16 steps per job can be programmed for different beam blank out patterns to follow the shape of the part. Up to 243 jos can be stored in nonvolatile memory. A learn mode allows for easy job creation. Blanking limits allow the user to set a window where blanking is allowed. A floating beam function allows up to 3 beams on 1/2 units and 1 beam on 1 units to be blocked without a shutdown. Limits to the floating function allow the user to set a window where floating beams are allowed. A 40 character vacuum fluorescent display guides the user and provides english language messages. A 16 key membrane keypad is used for set up and control. A password system allows for the supervision of the blanking features. Beam indicator display shows any blocked beams. Built in muting for the nonhazardous portion of the cycle. Built in trouble shooting aids. Built in strobe light immunity. Captive contact safety relays for machine control.
