This is in addition to our renowned summer opera festival in Central City where great artists present innovative full productions of opera and music theatre. TOURING SHOWS BOOK CENTRAL CITY OPERA S EXTRAORDINARY TRAVELING PERFORMANCES ANYTIME, ANYWHERE IN COLORADO AND WYOMING Cabaret Shows Themed shows featuring opera and musical theatre favorites Love Notes Smooth Operator There s a Song for That Designed just for you 2 or 3 singers and piano 3 singers and piano 4 singers and piano 2-4 singers and piano En Mis Palabras/In My Own Words This 50-minute bilingual (English/Spanish) opera addresses the universal theme of adolescent development finding your own voice and learning who you are amid parental expectations and peer influences. Resource guide in Spanish and English includes lesson plans in language arts and social studies How the West was Sung for ages 7-14 Frontier history comes alive through the stories of Leadville Silver King Horace Tabor and his beautiful wife Baby Doe; Molly Brown, known as Unsinkable; Clara Brown, freed slave and Colorado pioneer; and other assorted western characters. Interactive Programs for ages 4-11 These fast-paced, imaginative programs performed by 3 singers with piano support K-6 curriculum and standards. Children join singers on the stage to create scenes and tell stories through song. Mozart & Co. Eureka Street The Great Opera Mix-up Scenes based on great literature (Shakespeare, etc.) and fairy tales Funny and fascinating characters bring history and music to life Plot, characters, conflict and resolution the (hilarious) elements of story Opera Up Close In-depth explorations of opera and musical storytelling for smaller classroom settings. EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVITY Music! Words! Opera! Residency Offered September through May Students create and perform a musical story. The process of researching/ scripting a story and writing/composing lyrics and music develops problemsolving and team skills through practical applications of core disciplines like math, reading/writing and social studies. Experienced Teaching Artists assist in the process. Performing Arts Intensive Elevate your Art Summer 2017 Students aged 16-18 get creative in beautiful Colorado Springs and Central City, developing skills in acting, dance/movement, vocal technique, lyricwriting and composition. This joint project with the Colorado Springs Conservatory teams students with the finest artist/coaches to hone their craft, create an original work, and stage a full musical, culminating in public performances during the Central City Opera festival. 6 O u t o f t h e B o x Teaching Artist Sessions Offered September through May Augment curriculum in STEM subjects as well as music, theater, dance and world languages with hands-on workshops or master classes led by proficient Teaching Artists. Subjects include the science of singing (sound waves, harmonics and physiology), cooking and fractions (practical math, food to fuel the body), vocal or instrumental technique, stagecraft and movement. Workshop for Educators Summer 2017 This five-day workshop unleashes creativity as you team-construct an original musical story while learning methods to guide students in discovering the magical connections between language arts, social studies, science, math and fine arts through musical storytelling. Great for families. Take a Child to the Opera August 1, 2017 Engage in pre-opera activities before the annual Family Matinee. Meet artists, hear the backstories, sing or move a little, visit a cemetery, go on a scavenger hunt activities may vary, but fun is guaranteed.
