Installing software 1. Insert the distribution disk into CD drive. 2. Run Windows. 3. Select File menu. 4. Select Run option. 5. Enter file to run CD:\Install.exe 6. Follow the on screen instructions.
Installing hardware Please follow these instructions for installing the PC BASED DSO 2 100. 1) Connect the DSO to the provided cable. 2) Connect the cable to the parallel port of your computer. 3) Connect the Oscilloscope probe to the BNC connector (CH.A) and connect the probe tip to the CAL terminal on the back of the DSO 4) Connect the power cable to the DSO. 5) Plug the power adapter into the wall. 6) After checking all connections, turn on the computer and peripherals. You are now ready to install the software. 7) After installing the software, calibrating the scope probes is a good idea. See the section below on hardware, the Calibration Procedure
Auto setup Auto setup operates on the analog channel that is currently defined as the trigger channel. It will attempt to find setting that provide a stable and consistent acquisition. Auto setup will<<auto setup>> on the following settings Voltage/Division for trigger channel. When you dual mode, Auto setup is selected to CH.A
Guide to operations When making measurements with the PC BASED DSO 2 100 Digital Storage Oscilloscope, meaningful data can only be captured with some prior knowledge of the characteristics of the circuit under test. Before initiating any capture cycles, the PC BASED DSO 2 100 must be configured using the control program. See the software section later in the manual for instructions on these procedures. To connect the PC BASED DSO 2 100 to the test circuit, there are two standard BNC probes, one for each Analog input channel The scope probes have removable hook clips on their ends and an attached alligator clip for the signal ground connection. Make sure that there is a common ground between the PC BASED DSO 2100 and the circuit under test. Each Analog channel probe has a calibration adjustment. It is important that this calibration be made at least twice a year. See Auto Calibration for more information.
Screen. Main Screen Zero Point Tick Mark Cursors A and B Horizontal Scroll Bar Display Time A Tireger Menu Parmater Display
Main Screen The main display is made up of areas: - On the right side of the screen is the settings/parameter display. - In the middle are the data displays. - The top is the analog waveform display. - Above the analog display is a Time A graph representing the data buffer. This also shows the location of the cursors and which part of the buffer is being displayed. - On the right side of the screen you will see the settings for one of the analog channels. You can select the active channel with the select button. - Just to the left of the analog waveform display are markers for the ground points. CH-A markings are closest to the display, than CH-B. Time A The Time A Graph display represents the data buffer. The graph shows the locations of Cursor A, Cursor B, and the Trigger cursor, and also the current portion of the buffer displayed on the screen. Each item is displayed in its color. If Thumbnails are turned on a miniature waveform is displayed, otherwise a horizontal line is displayed for each channel.
Zero Point Tick Marks Located to the right of the Analog Display. The Zero Point Tick Marks are > shaped. These display the ground points of each analog channel. Zero Point Tick Marks associated with Channel A are left most and Channel B through Display are successively further to the left. These Tick Marks can be moved by click of mouse by grabbing and dragging with a pointing device
Cursors A and B The Cursors provide an easy means of voltage or time-and-frequency measurements. For a selected channel, the voltage or time-and-frequency difference between the two cursors is shown in the Parameters Display area. Cursor A and Cursor B can be moved by: - Grabbing and dragging the cursors with a pointing device. - Selecting the Cursor by clicking on the Cursor A or Cursor B button. - Selecting the cursor from the mouse.
Display Time A Shows or hides the display of the analog waveform in the Time A Graph area. A Time A display is a compressed version of the main display that shows a complete view of the data buffer. With Time A off, a line is displayed with a bar at each end that depicts relative position of each displayed channel. A box is drawn to depict the area that is displayed by the full-size window, that box is the same color as the grid. The cursor positions are also displayed. Note: Turning this off will speed up the initial display of data.
Horizontal Scroll Bar This scroll bar is used in conjunction with a selected waveform. The Horizontal Scroll Bar will move a selected waveform or cursor left or right in the display area.
Trigger menu Trigger settings Source Slope Couple Mode menu commands. - - -..-- ~..
Trigger settings All trigger and capture parameters are displayed in this box and can be altered in it as well. These parameters are also accessible through the pull down menus. Source Set trigger channel. Slope Set trigger slope. Mode Set trigger mode. See also Trigger Basics.
. Source Trigger CH- 1 Trigger on channel 1. Trigger CH-2 Trigger on channel 2. Trigger EXT Trigger on channel EXT
Trigger Slope -- When the trigger channel is set to one of the analog channels. Trigger Slope can be set to positive(rising) or negative(falling) edge.
Couple Mode menu commands The trigger mode can be set in the trigger dialog box to the following: Normal Trigger on a rising or falling edge at a certain level AC TV Horizontal Trigger on Horizontal TV signal. TV Vertical Trigger on Vertical TV signal.
Parameter Display The Parameters Display shows the following: Coupling (for selected channel) V/Div (for selected channel) Probe settings ( for selected x10, xl ) Cursor measurements Time Voltage Frequency Clicking on the Select button will change which channel is selected. Clicking on the display channel button on the toolbar will change which channel is selected. Clicking on the Edit button allows the user to change settings for the selected channel.
Probes Calibration For the most accurate measurements possible, the probes used must be calibrated. There is a built in calibration signal point on the CAL terminal connector. Follow this procedure to calibrate each probe: 1) 1) Verify that the probe attenuation setting matches the actual probe 2) Connect the probe (BNC end) to the channel A or channel B inputs. 3) Connect the scope probe tip (pointy end) to the CAL terminal connector by holding the probe s tip against the calibration point. A Square wave signal should appear on the screen 4) Adjust the probe calibration(a screw adjustment near tip) until a true square wave is shown on the screen, noting the comers of the waveform which should be sharp and square, not rounded over or peaky Auto Calibration Auto Calibration of the PC BASED DSO 2 100 hardware is performed by the software each time it is started up. This ensures that the hardware is fnnctioning correctly before each use. While the tests are being performed, the following window showing a list of each test is displayed.
FFT The FFT dialog allows control and display of FFT s. The following controls are available: Horizontal zoom Select horizontal zoom ratio. Vertical scale Select vertical scaling factor.
XY Plot XY Plot will display the buffer data with one channel of data as the X axis data and another channel of data as the Y axis data. This mode duplicates the XY Plots commonly found on analog oscilloscopes. The radio buttons on the right side of this dialog box select which channel of data will be used for the X axis and Y axis.
