Over several years, the brass quintet has broken into the national scene, performing at Michigan s Bay View Music Festival and alongside the Boston Brass during the 2013 Crested Butte Music Festival in Colorado. The group recently received an invitation to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association InService Convention and was a finalist in the Calvin Smith Brass Quintet Competition in Knoxville, Tennessee. Committed to outreach, Spectacle Brass collaborated with a local high school to present the Suite from Leonard Bernstein s Mass and presented a benefit program for Children s Healthcare of Augusta, Georgia. During his study at Metro Atlanta s Kennesaw State University, Burson studied with Thomas Hooten of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Karin Bliznik of the St. Louis Symphony, Michael Tiscione of the Atlanta Symphony, and Georgia Brass Band Solo Cornetist, Dr. Douglas Lindsey. John Thomas has attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the YMF Balmat National Orchestra Institute, the Bay View Music Festival, and the Boston Brass Summer Music Clinic at Western State Colorado University. For two consecutive years, he was selected as Principal Trumpet in the Georgia Music Educators Association AllCollege Band in Savannah, Georgia. He was also a finalist in the National Brass Symposium Orchestral Excerpts Competition. biographies John Thomas Burson, trumpet JohnThomas Burson, trumpet performer and educator, has pursued his passion for music across a diversity of genres and arenas, including performances with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Georgia Brass Band, Harrower Opera Institute and Spectacle Brass, of which he is a founding member. Recently selected as a New Horizons Fellow at the 2015 Aspen Music Festival and School, he has appeared at the National Trumpet Competition, National Brass Symposium, Crested Butte Music Festival, Bay View Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Bar Harbor Brass Week, and the YMF Balmat National Orchestra Institute. In 2014, he was the winner of the International Trumpet Guild Sonare Pro Brass Scholarship. Burson holds a BM in Performance from Kennesaw State University, where he studied with Thomas Hooten, Michael Tiscione, Douglas Lindsey, Karin Bliznik and Jennifer Marotta. Performing in venues such as the Cobb Energy Centre, Gwinnett Performing Arts Centre, Bailey Performance Center, and Spivey Hall, Mr. Burson also teaches trumpet as an instructor at the West Georgia Arts Conservatory. With an interest in the new music scene, John Thomas is currently working on a project recording the brass chamber music of William Funk. He is also actively arranging music for brass quintet to present in collaboration with Spectacle Brass. Mr. Burson performs on Yamaha, Bach, and Schilke trumpets. Michael DeSousa, trombone Michael DeSousa is a freelance trombonist based in the Atlanta metro area, performing with a range of ensembles including salsa and rock groups to jazz bands and orchestras. Some of the distinguished groups he has performed with include the Indie pop band, Foster the People in

2012 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, the musical act The Las Vegas Rat Pack, and with jazz vocalist, Chantae Cann in 2014. Additionally in 2014, Mr. DeSousa had the distinct privilege of being one of the winners of Kennesaw State University s Concerto Competition performing Concertino Op. 4 by Ferdinand David. Notable venues where Mr. DeSousa has performed include the Hard Rock: Atlanta, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. He has also recorded with Adult Swim, Ryan Snow and the Bandits, Kylie Miranda and the Times, and many others. His teachers include Dr. Thomas Gibson, Wes Funderburk, Lee Watts and Dr. Jason Altieri. Amanda Melton, harp Amanda Melton is an 18-year-old freshman pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance. She began her studies when she was seven years old under the direction of Susan Bennett Brady. Amanda has also had the privilege of working with Linda Wood Rollo, Susann McDonald and Judy Loman. She now studies with Elisabeth Remy Johnson. Recent highlights include earning first place honors in both the Concerto and Orchestra Competitions at the Young Artist's Harp Seminar in 2013. Amanda won first place in the Advanced Division of the 2012 Bach Competition in Atlanta. In 2013, she performed with both the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. She also worked with the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2008 and 2010, Amanda was a finalist in the Young Artist's Harp Competition. She performs regularly in the orchestra at First Baptist Church in Marietta and Symphony on the Square under Dr. Paul Hill on both harp and violin. Amanda has maintained a private piano and violin studio for the past five years. Throughout her high school years, she received top honors in the advanced level for piano performance, technique and theory through the Music Teachers Association of California s Certificate of Merit Piano program. She has twice been a piano finalist in the Georgia Music Teachers Association State Auditions. In her free time, Amanda loves to play competitive tennis and travel. Some of her favorite destinations thus far have been California, Hawaii, Alaska, Paris, England and cruises around Canada and Norway.
