FULL SET: Digital $0 Hard Coy: $7 Email onsyrose@gmailcom Program Notes In une o 2017 as I had a conversation ith my ie, essi, I told her that I had alays had the dream o comosing Hoever, at ortyto years old and aout thirty o them eing a musician, I had never een ale to comlete a iece A coule days ater our conversation I received an email aout the annual call or anares rom the Dallas Wind Symhony As I lay in ed that same evening, numerous melodies ran through my head Ater laying aake all night, I got u the next morning, sat don at my comuter and egan to sketch out Fanare, "Die Helden" hich as sumitted to the DWS Uon egining to rite, I truly elt insired, ut I mostly ust desired to inish the ork As I rely heavily on my Christian aith, each night as I closed out my riting or the day, I ould lay in my ed and ray During my rayers, I ould ask God that i He anted me to comose this music, that He ould "give me the notes" In my conversations ith my riend David Maslanka, he ould descrie his methods and ho he relied on his sirituality and meditation With guidance rom David I have een meditating, hich or me is a rayer time This rayer time and soul searching led to the thoughts o my 11 years on active duty as a US Marine, as ell as all o the Sailors and Coast Guardsmen that I had served alongside The images o the men and omen in these three services, and their dedication to duty, as ell as their time aay rom thier loved ones, rought to me the heroic and loing melodies ithin this ork Ater inishing the original rass and ercussion anare, I kne it had to e comosed or ull ind and The sound o the ork is simle, heroic, and hoeully rings thoughts o the lessings o rotection e are lucky to receive rom all o the men and omen in the US Marine Cors, US Navy and US Coast Guard that serve as, "Heroes rom the Sea" Comoser Bio Onsy C Rose is entering his second year as a DMA conducting associate at The Ohio State University here he studies ith Dr Russel C Mikkelson In 199 he attended the University o South Carolina as a music education maor and in 1997 he as acceted as a tromonist or the US Marine Cors leet ands During his 11year Marine Cors career he served as a tromonist and conductor ith ands in Alany, GA and Ne Orleans, LA as ell as on sta at the Armed Forces School o Music in Norolk, VA He also served or to years as a aritone ugler ith "The Commandant's On" US Marine Drum and Bugle Cors in Washington, DC He comleted his Bachelor o Music at East Tennessee State University in 200 In 2007 Onsy as honoraly discharged rom the USMC and as a reelance tromonist and railroad reight conductor in the eastern US, then came ack to music education in 2012 as director o ands at Hamton HS and MS in Carter County, TN From 20116 Onsy as a graduate assistant ith the ands o Aalachian State University, graduating in 2016 ith a master's degree in Wind Conducting He has studied conducting ith Russel C Mikkelson, ohn Ross, Scott ones, Kevin Richardson, erry unkin, Kevin Sedatole, Eugene Cororon, Donald McKinney, and Steven Peterson and Roxanne Haskill The most inluential comosers that Onsy studies and identiies ith their music, are David Maslanka, Frank Ticheli, ulie Giroux, David Holsinger, Steven Bryant, and P I Tchaikovsky Although Onsy vies himsel as a conductor, he is excited and thanks God or the git o comosition Onsy and his ie essica live in Blacklick, Ohio ith their ive oys, Aidan, Timothy, Cale, Eliah and Colin He is a memer o numerous roessional organizations to including the College Band Directors National Association, National Association or Music Education, Phi Mu Alha Sinonia, Kaa Kaa Psi and the American Society o Comosers, Authors, and Pulishers Hoever, he holds closest to his heart the title o United States Marine
