A review of the film Sound City Sound City is a documentary made by Dave Grohl and it focuses on the story behind Nirvana s album Nevermind. It also tells the story of how bands used to record their albums in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s/2000s. This is a great documentary that will hopefully inspire you to create some fantastic music during your time on the Music Technology course. Information about recording techniques throughout these decade are also essential for your listening paper. Type the following into your address bar and you should find the documentary. You can always purchase it via the Sound City official website. You re a film critic who has to write a film review of Sound City. Fill the space provided below and give a detailed commentary on the film, i.e. tell me what it is about. Talk about specific things that are mentioned. This should give you a good introduction into the world of recording music. Consider the following topics in your review. How have recording techniques have changed over the years? How does a band actually record an album? Record together? Separately? Drums first/last? Why? Digital vs Analogue What s the process of recording an instrument?

History of Popular Music Part of your listening paper will focus on the stylist features of a wide range of popular music genres and sub genres (1910 2017). Below is a list of genres and sub genres, please note that there are more than what s listed below, i.e. EDM, Funk, Electro Pop, Trap, etc. But the ones below will be enough for now! You need to listen to the suggested listening tasks and write out the main musical and production features for each genre.
