Main Stage Productions The 2013-14 Season NWCT Main Stage Production Information Company information: NWCT will produce four Mainstage productions for its 21 st Season. Our mission is to educate, entertain and enrich the lives of young audiences. The main stage productions use age-appropriate casting so that adult actors play adult roles and youth actors play a combination of age-appropriate roles. NWCT productions are intended to appeal primarily to young audiences while entertaining patrons of all ages. The public performances are typically held over the weekends and some holidays for families to attend, and the school matinees are planned on weekdays for children across the Portland Metro region to attend educational field trips. NWCT's artistic mission to provide live theater experiences for young audiences that are fresh, engaging and relevant includes conceiving, developing and producing two original works for the stage in our 21 st Season. Callbacks: Held throughout the Summer and Season by show. Check the Website or Audition Hotline at 503-222-2190 x 28 for updates. Following Season Auditions, all actors are notified by U.S. mail if they will be called back for specific productions/ programs. Later, actors called back for a specific production will be contacted by email with details regarding the callback date, time and preparation. Scripts may or may not be available to read prior to the callback. During or following the callbacks, every actor will be notified whether or not they will be offered a role. Casting: NWCT casts age-appropriately. Conflicts: Conflicts will be considered in casting. Flexibility of scheduling is important when committing to a show. Be sure to communicate your conflicts when you are offered a role. Conflicts that arise after a rehearsal schedule has been finalized are significantly more difficult, and sometimes impossible, to accommodate, and may result in re-casting a role. Rehearsals: Generally Sunday afternoon/evening and Monday-Thursday evenings; begin approximately 6 weeks prior to opening. Each show will have specific needs that may require additional rehearsal time. Tech Week: Two weeks prior to opening, technical and dress rehearsals may run 4-5 hours nightly and will include a long Friday-Sunday commitment. Performances: The 2013-14 Performance Schedule is included in this packet. School matinees occur on weekdays during each show. If you accept a role, NWCT will contact your school to formally request excused absences for the time missed, but you are ultimately responsible for securing approved absences with your school. Please verify that you will be able to miss school time before you attend the callbacks. Stipend: Most roles are paid a stipend for their work in a production following the closing night performance. Classes: Our productions of Peter Pan and James and the Giant Peach may require Skills Classes for certain roles, for example stage combat and puppeteer. In these instances class requirements including dates, times and tuition information will be made available with Call Back details. Tuition may be required for these classes. Our 2013-14 Season of Plays James and the Giant Peach (not a musical) Roald Dahl. Adapted for the stage by David Wood. Directed by Sarah Jane Hardy and John Ellingson. INTERNS NW 2013 NWCT Interns NW Program for 1st Year students Interns NW is a unique six-month intensive certificate program in theater arts. Selected young people ages fifteen to nineteen will gain hands-on experience in a variety of theatrical disciplines while working with NWCT staff and guest artists. Internships combine experience both onstage and backstage with advanced instruction allowing young people to explore a range of theater arts in a focused, professional atmosphere. Interns are selected by audition, written application and recommendation, and interview. The program director is Sarah Jane Hardy. There is no program fee for Interns NW. Ages Interns NW is comprised of advanced students aged fifteen to nineteen (younger applicants may be admitted by program director). Advanced Training Programs All First Year Interns participate in advanced training focusing predominantly on performance related skills. Classes are offered throughout the Fall and Winter Terms after school and on Sundays. Although some classes are mandatory, interns select the majority of classes from a calendar of options based on their skills, interests and availability. All interns must participate in a minimum of 20 hours of Advanced Training per term to graduate from the program. A detailed intern calendar will be made available to interns in advance of their scheduled interview. Technical Requirement All First Year Interns are assigned to work backstage on one main stage production as a stagehand, wardrobe/dresser or booth technician. NWCT main stage productions include weekday performances. First year Interns will be required to be excused from up to four days of school in order to complete their technical requirement. NWCT will contact your school to request excused absences for the time missed, but you are ultimately responsible for securing approved absences with your school. 7-10 days prior to opening, technical and dress rehearsals may run 4-5 hours nightly and will include a long Saturday/Sunday commitment. Interns must indicate at the time of their interview availability for two productions. Front of House Requirement All First Year Interns are assigned to work as Assistant House Manager for two weekends per season on either main stage or second state productions. Interns NW Blog All notices, schedule and communications for NWCT Interns will be posted online on the Interns NW Blog. Interns and their parents are responsible for checking the blog regularly (daily) to keep informed and updated. Company Events & Auction Gala First year Interns will be asked to assist with the NWCT Auction Gala and other fundraising events, specifically the Annual Auction Gala. Many Interns have been able to apply these hours towards credit for community service requirements at school. Intern Showcase Production During NWCT s Spring term, Interns will mount a showcase/workshop production. Interns will head up all areas of production (except directing) and the details of the production will depend largely on the strengths of the particular interns participating. Participation in this project is not mandatory. First, second and third year interns collaborate on the intern showcase production.
