Blithe Spirit ~ Setting and Scenes Location: The living room of Charles Condomine s house in Kent, 1941. ACT 1 Scene 1: Before dinner on a summer afternoon Scene 2: After dinner INTERMISSION ACT 2 Scene 1: The next morning Scene 2: Late the following afternoon Scene 3: Early evening a few days later INTERMISSION ACT 3 Scene 1: After dinner. A few days later Scene 2: Several hours later Please turn off cell phones. No photography or recording devices allowed. Director s Notes Noël Coward wrote Blithe Spirit during the Second World War and it s curious that there is nothing about the war in it. He merely wished to entertain and so this black comedy was born. Described as an improbable farce Blithe Spirit is about a novelist who is researching the occult. He hires a medium to conduct a séance so he can learn some tricks of the trade and she brings back the ghost of his first wife, causing havoc for Mr. Condomine and his second wife, Ruth. Directing this show was very rewarding especially working with such a talented group of actors. Having to step in a short time prior to opening night in the role of Madame Arcati has been very much exciting to say the least. It is a role I played eighteen years ago and won a CTC award. My hopes for all in the audience is they have a fun time as we return to 1941 in Kent, England, home of the socialites Mr. and Mrs. Condomine. Dayna is a Garfield Weston National Merit Scholar, has travelled Asia extensively, and runs far less than Edith does. Mary Stockwell ~ Ruth ~ Mary Stockwell is excited to be performing in this Deep Cove Stage production. She discovered her passion for theatre at just 10 years old playing in her big brother s high school production, Midsummer s Night Dream. Since then she has pursued her love of theatre playing roles in such productions as You Can t Take It With You, The Secret Garden, "South Pacific, Frankenstein, Wife After Death and most recently, Go Back For Murder. She is a nutritionist and spends her days as a Wellness Manager and nights at her local yoga studio. She would like to thank her fiancé for supporting her in pursuing her passion. The couple plan to marry in the winter. Enjoy the show! Andrew Lissett ~ Charles ~ Andrew has been involved in acting since elementary school. After a sojourn into parenthood he returned in 2016 as George in DCSS s production of Neil Simon s Chapter Two. He is excited to be back working with such a talented cast and crew. He divides his time running himself and kids to auditions and playing guitar in local party band Ginger Tompkins and the Love Lads. Doug Perri ~ Dr. Bradman ~ Doug holds a BFA in Theatre in Education from UVIC, and he has managed box office, acted and designed costumes for theatres in Victoria, Whistler, Vancouver, Burnaby and North Vancouver. Doug has previously appeared in Deep Cove Stage s production A Dark & Stormy Night and most recently as Harold Kent in Deep Cove Stage s Murder by Misadventure. Doug is also a Vice President of Theatre BC and past chair for Theatre BC s North Shore Zone. Thanks to cast & crew for their tremendous support and a huge thanks and love to Norman for his support and patience during this process. Kathleen Kelly-Driscoll ~ Mrs Bradman ~ Kathleen started later in life finding her passion for the theatre. In the last 20 years, she has been involved in over 40 plays with various community theatres in the lower mainland. This is Kathleen s first time with Deep Cove Stage Society and is looking forward to working with Jacqollyne once again and the rest of the amazing cast and crew. Kathleen was recently seen at Surrey Little Theatre as 82-year-old Dorrie in Home Child. She is looking a lot younger in this role...lol. She also has been with Vagabond Players in Calendar Girls, The O Connor Girls, Christmas Belles, Fawlty Towers and Dear Page 4
Bios Santa. Kathleen has also played around Vancouver, White Rock and Langley. Kathleen would like to give a big thank you to all her friends support and a special one to her mom for her love and support. Jacqollyne Keath ~ Madame Arcati & Director ~ Jacqollyne is well known on and off the stage in the community theatre world. Recent roles include Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret (Tomo Suru Players), Granny Tzeitl in Fiddler On The Roof (RCMT) and Mary in Body and Soul(Vagabond Players). A special thank you to Christopher Key for all his work on Blithe Spirit and taking on more roles than his original Stage Manager duties. Ruby Hobbs ~ Elvira ~ This is Ruby s second role on the Deep Cove Shaw stage, her first being that of Jennie Malone in the 2016 production of Chapter Two. A Boston native, Ruby graduated from McGill University and settled in Vancouver about ten years ago. A stage and screen performer, Ruby s stage credits include All My Sons, The Baltimore Waltz, Midwives and a national tour of Don Quixote and The Three Musketeers. Film credits include Clint Eastwood s Mystic River and Barry Hershey s Casting About. Since living in Vancouver, she has appeared in several film shorts and television commercials and landed roles in the television shows Untold Stories of the ER and Maux Mysteres. She plays Officer Jen Flannigan in the upcoming horror series, She Sees Beyond. Ruby would like to thank her family for their unwavering support while preparing the role of the often naughty and always inimitable Elvira. Christopher Key Assistant Director / Stage manager ~ Christopher has been doing theatre since God was in short pants and thinks they might have done a panto together back in the day. He is both humble and grateful by the warm welcome he has received from his new Canadian theatre family. But not THAT humble and you shouldn t encourage him just because he simply adores writing about himself in the third person. Christopher will be directing shows at both Hendry Hall and Deep Cove next season and has absolutely no shame about plugging And Evermore Shall Be So and Wait Until Dark. He s had a stone hoot working with Jacqollyne and this hauntingly wonderful cast and crew. Love, as always, to Reiko for the joie de vivre.
