Inspiring Saplings to Flourish

Orchard Kingdom is a studio dedicated to training young people in the arts and at the same time facilitating their growth in sanctification. With a love for the Word of God, Creative Director Brenda Edwards, has devoted herself to writing music curriculum and musicals. The curriculum and musicals are based on an enchanting land called Orchard Kingdom. Filled with whimsical stories of faith and adventure in the 1500 s, animal characters learn musical facts through creative means and sing songs with lyrics that teach biblical truths. The music curriculum utilizes a colorcoded solfège approach, along with unique games and creative manipulatives. This provides the opportunity for the imagination to soar, the mind to love learning, the body to welcome discipline and the soul to hunger for true communion with the Author of creativity Himself. Private instruction in piano, strings and voice has been the backbone of the studio. There are also monthly group classes that utilize Orchard Kingdom materials for the purpose of learning music theory while also emphasizing character development. Obtaining her Music Education degree in 1981 from Illinois State University and having taught piano now for almost 40 years, Brenda is well equipped to mentor young teachers as they train and teach beside her in the studio in an internship program. Along with continuing to provide year round lessons, the Baymeadows facility will allow the studio to expand into many more of the arts. This will include fine arts, fiber art instruction, language study, a group piano lab and a music and movement class. Desiring to nurture Oaks of Righteousness the studio aims to inspire saplings to flourish. The end goal: To Serve the King of the Arts

Music Camps Music and Movement Youngsters will enjoy music, movement and dance in a literature-based class. Students will romp, tumble and dance to illustrated classics set to music. Music based upon familiar nursery rhymes and popular children s finger puppet plays provide the backdrop for inspirational learning. (3-6 yr. Olds) Rhythm and Music Exploring rhythm instruments through echoing and rhythm drills, children try out various rhythm and melodic instruments. Favorite children s classics along with puppets, colored scarves, and multi-sensory manipulatives enhance the learning. (3-6 yr. Olds) Many Colored Days Based on the Dr. Suess book Many Colored Days students explore two different colored animals each day through stories, songs, activities and crafts. Classical music favorites provide the backdrop for inspirational learning. (3-6 yr. Olds & 7-12 yr. Olds) Beginning Piano Utilizing a keyboard lab, students are introduced to basic piano skills in a whimsical setting based upon Orchard Kingdom characters, songs and games. Students are bombarded with musical ideas through visual, aural and kinesthetic avenues. (3-6 yr. Olds & 7-12 yr. Olds) String Party Requiring at least 1 year of previous study, string students expand their repertoire and strengthen basic music skills through repetition, games, music theory, technique and intonation exercises. Whimsical stories convey Biblical truths and help to make acquisition of musical ideas memorable and fun. (7-12 yr. Olds) Kids Choir Singers improve their vocal ability as they rehearse and prepare a scene from an original Orchard Kingdom Musical. A fun way to build upon little or no previous music study and introduce basic music skills in an exciting atmosphere. (7-12 yr. Olds) Beginning Band Requiring at least 1 year of previous study on their respective instrument students hone their musical skills through creative learning techniques, games, ensemble practice and rhythm drills. (7-12 yr. Olds)

Advanced Music Theory An advanced level course open to musicians of any instrument, teens are challenged to analyze major, minor, augmented and diminished chords; decipher musical scale codes and understand the components of musical structure to enhance their ability to sight-read and perform difficult music. (13-18 yr. Olds) Advanced Piano Performance An advanced level course open to teens proficient in piano or those with at least 4 years of study who can demonstrate a willingness to work hard. Teen students will explore practice techniques and secrets, sight-reading helps, and thought processes to develop solid tone, excellent phrasing, and balance between the hands. (13-18 yr. Olds) Rock Band This is a favorite among teens. Musicians come together to form a band (guitar, drums, keyboard and bass). Teen musicians learn how to work together, how to listen to one another, play basic rhythm patterns and the ability to follow a simple chord chart. The precursor to playing in a church worship ensemble this course will also assist the musician to prepare the heart. (13-18 yr. Olds) The Art of Accompanying An advanced piano ability level course, teens learn how to put others first as they learn the secret of using their musical ability to enhance the performance of the soloist they are accompanying. Rather than the featured instrument, the piano becomes the means of supporting the soloist. (13-18 yr. Olds) Art Camps Art Experience Introduction to 3 different art mediums: drawing, painting and fabric collage for young artists. Stories from children s literature and classical music selections contribute to the multi-sensory experience. Laughter and whimsy complete the adventure. (3-6 yr. Olds & 7-12 Yr. Olds) Art Basics Contour drawing, values and art principles are explored as students spend 2 weeks honing their artistic skills. Classical music provides a backdrop for delving into Biblical truths brought to life through various art mediums. (7-12 yr. Olds & 13-18 yr. Olds)

Fiber Arts Camps Beginning Knitting Girls are introduced to basic knitting and make a small scarf for Juliette the Fox. Lessons are enhanced by favorite classical music selections, exploration of wool production and in-depth study of Biblical truths conveyed by Scriptural passages such as The Lord is my shepherd (Ps. 23:1) and We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. (Ps.100:5) (7-12 Yr. Olds & 13-18 yr. Olds) Embellished Garments Making a small frock for Juliette the Fox girls learn to crochet a yoke for a linen dress, sew on a button enclosure, and embellish the hem of the linen garment with embroidery. Listening to favorite classical music selections students learn about the resourceful Proverbs 31 woman. (7-12 Yr. Olds & 13-18 yr. Olds) Beginning Quilting Girls are introduced to the ancient art of quilting through making a diminutive quilt for Juliette the Fox. Girls learn to trace, cut and sew the pieces that make up the finished quilt. Lessons are enhanced by favorite classical music selections and in-depth study of Titus 2, becoming a woman of the home. (13-18 yr. Olds) Foreign Language Camps Spanish Aprendamos Students with no previous exposure to the Spanish language are immersed in the language through literature, games, songs and Scripture. A 2-week fun-filled experience for beginning Spanish students. French Viva le France Students with no previous exposure to the French language are immersed in the language through literature, games, songs and Scripture. A 2 week fun-filled experience for beginning French students. Private Lessons Personal one-on-one lessons are a crucial part of a child s musical education and give them the greatest opportunity to excel and truly test their skill level. It also provides an ideal opportunity to invest in the student s character. Orchard Kingdom offers private lessons in piano, violin, cello & voice.
