Students are nt allwed in the lcker rm during rehearsal. Enter calmly unlck yur lcker and get ut nly the materials needed fr class Place all ther items and cases back in the lcker and lck yur lcker (d nt leave valuables unattended n the flr) Make sure yur lcker number matches the number n yur lck Unless specified therwise by the directrs, nbdy shuld be sharing a lcker Misbehavir, r failure t fllw lcker rm prcedures may result in the lss f lcker privileges Behavir Plicies In the band prgram at Barber, we adapt the same behavir plicy that the schl has. We strngly supprt the schl s philsphy in prviding psitive behavir incentives in rder t create a learning envirnment apprpriate fr the music classrm. Being a part f the Barber Middle Schl band is a privilege, as ur grups travel lcally and ut f the state fr varius perfrmances. Respect, preparatin, being n time, and taking apprpriate care f ur instruments and ur space is vital t the success f a student in ur prgram.

Grading System 30% - Band Dj 30% - Perfrmance Assessments 25% - Cncert Assessment 15% - Daily Grade The Band Dj 30% The Band Dj is an nging psitive reward system, rewarding students with recgnitin based ff f their wrk and mastery f their instrument. Students are given a packet f the required pass-ffs fr each belt. As a checkpint, students are respnsible fr passing ff a specific number f pass-ffs by the end f each grading perid (usually five pass-ffs every three weeks). Students gain belts indicating their mastery level as they wrk thrugh a prgressin f pass ffs. Students are encuraged t wrk thrugh the dj packets at their wn pace, but are required t meet the grading perid checkpints. They are highly encuraged t wrd ahead in the pass-ffs, perfrming mre than the minimal amunt required fr the class. A student may pass ff an exercise by playing it fr either f the directrs befre schl frm 8:00 t 8:45 r after schl frm 4:30 t 5:30pm. Students are als welcme t submit recrdings f themselves perfrming the exercise via the barber band website at www.barberband.rg. Perfrmance Assessments 30% Each student will take a minimum f ne perfrmance assessment (playing test) per grading perid (abut every 6 weeks). Extra perfrmance exams may be assigned at the discretin f Mr. Grgan and Mr. Rikard. If a student wishes t nt perfrm the test in class, he r she may pt t take the test earlier befre r after schl. He r she als has the ptin f submitting a vide f the assessment as lng as it is received befre the in-class test date. Students wh have nt taken their tests in persn fr the directrs r submitted a vide by the day f the test will be expected t play the assessment in class. Cncert Assessment 25% Students must attend all cncerts invlving their class. They are expected t be n time, wearing the crrect cncert attire (see the Cncert Attire ), and stay fr the entire cncert. If a student is absent, he r she will have t cmplete the makeup wrk within ne week f the missed perfrmance. The cncert make-up assignment can be fund n the band website. Failure t perfrm at the cncert and/ r failure t cmplete make up exam will result in a 0% fr the cncert assessment grade. Daily Grade 15% The student s daily grade is cmprised f having all class materials (see classrm materials ) and his r her cntributin t a psitive rehearsal envirnment (see rehearsal expectatins ). Daily Grades will be entered in synergy by the end f every week. * Band Dj and Perfrmance Assessment grades can be made up at any time fr full credit as lng as it is cmpleted befre the end f the current six-week term. Daily grades cannt be made up fr full credit. Students have nly ne week t make up the cncert assessment grade fr credit.

Private Lessns: Becme the best musician yu can be! We encurage every student t take private instructin frm an accmplished musician. Private lessns make the mst f yur investment, allwing fr specialized instructin and advice. Students will get the added benefit f having private instructrs able t pass ff student dj requirements. Fr mre infrmatin visit the barberband.rg r pick up a Private Lessns Letter frm the band ffice. Submitting Perfrmance Assessments and Dj Pass-ffs Perfrmance Assessments and the Dj are an integral part f the band curriculum at Barber. Every Mnday, mst classes can usually expect t spend sme time n the band dj. Playing tests are usually n Fridays. Playing tests are utlined n the band calendar (accessible frm the Barber Band Website) n less than a week prir t the date f the assessment. 1. All tests can be made up fr full credit as lng as they are cmpleted befre the end f the semester 2. Partial credit will be given even if the test is attempted. If the student has a failing grade, he r she will be expected t make up failing grades. 3. Failure t make up a failing grade n a playing test culd mean that the student may be added t the band zap list fr the Friday reward perid. All playing tests will be dne n Fridays in class. If the student des nt want t perfrm the test in frnt f the class n test day (r needs t make up a test), then he r she has tw ptins: 1. Perfrm the test fr the band directrs utside f schl hurs A. Either befre schl (8:00 AM 8:30 AM) r after Schl (4:30 PM 5:30 PM) B. Submit a vide recrding t Mr. Grgan i. Submit a vide by clicking the pink Rec buttn belw (PREFERRED!) ii. Recrd a vide with yur electrnic device and submit it t Mr. Grgan at Rbert.Grgan@cbbk12.rg The band directrs have t either hear the student perfrm the upcming assessment r receive a vide submissin f the test befre test day n Friday in rder fr that student t be exempt frm playing in frnt f the class. Nte: just because the student submits a vide, des nt mean that the test grade assigned is autmatically a 100. Mr. Grgan r Mr. Rikard the student knw the grade n test day. Persnal Instruments Persnal Instruments are defined as instruments that belng t r are rented by an individual student s family frm a cmmunity music stre r private business. These instruments are nt wned r insured by Barber Middle Schl, the Cbb Cunty Schl District, r the State f Gergia. The student (and family) is respnsible fr maintaining the instrument in wrking rder with the prper accessries. The music teachers will recmmend repairs (when needed) and specific quality accessries as the student prgresses thrugh the prgram. Schl Instruments Schl Instruments are defined as instruments that belng t Barber Middle Schl. Schl-wned instruments are prvided fr the larger instruments like the tuba. We have a very limited supply f schl-wned instruments amng the ther instruments that are available t families that demnstrate financial need. These are n a first cme/first serve basis. If the child is using a schl wned instrument, the family is respnsible fr all repairs (utside f nrmal wear and tear) and is respnsible fr btaining all f the materials n this list (minus the actual instrument that is supplied by the schl). It is imprtant that great care is given t the instrument while it is in the student s pssessin. Future students must be able t use these instruments. Students perfrming n a schl-wned instrument will receive an instrument in prper wrking cnditin. Students are expected t treat and maintain the instrument with care thrughut the year. Shuld the instrument need t be repaired at any pint during the schl year, it is the respnsibility f the student (and family) t take the instrument t the repair shp fr prper maintenance in a timely fashin. At the end f the schl year, any remaining damage will be assessed, and the student will be charged. Obvius willful damage t schl instruments will be cnsidered vandalism and will be dealt with by the band directrs and the administratin at Barber as well as careless negligence. We have a VERY small number f schl instruments available. * We are nt respnsible fr lst r damaged items that are kept in the band lcker when the student des nt leave the lcker prperly secured. Instrument Hall Passes The students will be receiving a hall pass t drp ff and pick up their instruments. This pass will be stuck t the inside f their agendas. Students using the hall passes need t use them nly t drp ff r pick up their instruments. Students are nt t use the hall passes t scialize with their friends r t cme ask the band directrs questins. If the students have a questin abut lckers, lcks, instruments, ect, they are t write dwn the questin and leave it in the questin/cncern bx, lcated by the band ffice dr. The times fr using the hall pass will be in the mrnings frm 8:50 am t 9:05 am and in the afternns frm 4:10 pm t 4:15 pm. Upn drpping ff r picking up their instruments, the students are expected t reprt directly back t their first perid class r their 7 th perid class
