April 20, 2019 About the MSU Community Music School-Detroit! The mission of the MSU Community Music School-Detroit (CMS-D) is to provide a creative and welcoming environment where musical experiences, education and therapy services inspire individuals of all ages, abilities and incomes. Music education at CMS-D is subsidized through fundraising efforts in order to keep costs as low as possible. A $20 non-refundable deposit per student is required at the time of registration. This deposit is deducted from the total tuition due. Flexible payment plans are available. CMS-D youth may borrow instruments at no cost as part of the Lonely Instruments in Need of Kids loan program. Adult students are asked to pay a $10 monthly Instrument Loan processing fee. Tuition assistance is available for youth students by application and for adults enrolled in community bands only. Financial aid is based on annual household income and family size.
