Online Databases RESEARCH Tips: Online database articles are a sure thing as far as reliable/credible information goes. Database articles have been published and read by experts in the field too. You just have to make sure that the articles are relevant to your topic(s) and will help you complete the assignment requirements. Some databases will be better than others for your topics. Just keep trying them all until you find one that has what you need! 1

Look at the bibliographies at the end of articles for other possible sources. Britannica Online School Edition offers encyclopedias and related materials for students of all levels. Users can also take advantage of the Learning Materials, a collection of educational exercises, activities, and study guides. Click POWER LIBRARY under Databases by Subject, or General Reference. o Follow the directions and enter the barcode number on your Township Library card. If you need to use your password, it is the last 4 digits of your phone number. o Then click onto the database that you want to use. Look at the POWER Library homepage for other databases that can be helpful in your search. Follow the access directions above. When you are searching your favorite search engine and looking through the results, make sure to use this list to ensure that you are getting quality information: q Is this page a BLOG? If so, the information could be biased. q Is the author/producer of the site listed on the page? q Is there any reference to the author s authority in the subject matter presented in the website? q Is there a way to contact the author on the page (e-mail, address, phone number)? q Is the site linked to a government, educational, or commercial establishment?
