The Best o Bolder Forteiano FULL Edition NI Kontakt 2 / Ale EXS24 (302 mb)
The Best O Bolder double CD ROM was released or Gigastudio in Aril o 2002. It consisted o choice material rom revious Bolder libraries. This volume is a continuation o converting that library into natively rogrammed instruments or NI Kontakt and the Ale EXS24. Other volumes that have already been converted are: Celtic Pies, Crystal Glasses and Meditation Bowls, Susended Slate Rocks, American Folk, World Music and the Granular Selections. History o this Library In the year 2000 the Bolder Forteiano volume was released or the EMU ESI 4000. It was the irst time a orteiano had been samled. The ESI 4000 only had a maximum RAM caacity o 128 mb. Due to this limitation I chose to use only 1 velocity layer () o the 4 layers that were samled. This was the version which eventually migrated over to Gigastudio and Kurzweil versions. Fast orward to the year 2008. I have returned to the original DAT taes (remember those?) o the original samling session and have use all 4 samled velocity levels as well as key release samles. This is being released as the Forteiano FULL edition library rom Bolder Sounds. Kontakt 2 and EXS24 ormats in 1 ackage This is the irst B.O.B. volume that I have decided to include both the Kontakt 2 and Ale EXS24 instruments and samles in the same zi ackage. It has become a very requent request rom Bolder customers who own both sotware samlers to want the other ormat as well, hoeully this will simliy things. Kontakt 2 Installation This is very simle. Background On January 27th o 1999, I received an email which began out as ollows: Jim Aikin (Keyboard magazine) told me about you and gave me your website, which I have just visited. I am a 77 year old retired hysician who has taken u electronic sound. The reason is that as a lielong classical ianist I see the ossibility o enlarging the leasure and knowledge o others like mysel by making the sounds o eriod ianos available to eole with digital ianos who are willing to use samlers... rom Howland Auchincloss o Cazenovia, NY. It is not everyday that you get emails rom a retired hysician who wants to learn about the world o samling! So, o course I wrote back and we continued corresonding. I began teaching Howland (via email), what I knew about the crat o samling and sound design. I also had the leasure o having lunch with him in New York City June 1999, when I was there visiting my amily. There are many arguments ertaining to the ros and cons o samling acoustic instruments. I ersonally only see beneits o samling a instrument such as the orteiano or two reasons. These instruments are quite scarce and it gives the musician using the samle access to an instrument that in all likelihood would not be available at all. Do I think that a samle o a orteiano can relace real thing? No, I do not. But it is deinitely a valuable tool in today s digital music world. Also, it is ossible that a samle such as this might generate interest rom a musician who has only worked in the digital realm in exloring the world o early music instruments. The second reason is that this samleset (as well as others like it), may actually crossover into a world o early music bus, and they may actually take a look into the world that they had never considered - that o digital samling and it s ossibilities. So, I eel a roject like this could ossibly oen u new worlds at both ends o the sectrum. The orteiano samled or this library was built by Chris Maene, and it is a relica o a orteiano built by Anton Walter around 1780 in Vienna. Historical notes on the Forteiano By Howland Auchincloss The iano was invented around 1700 in Florence by Bartolomeo Cristoori. He called his invention gravicembalo col orte e iano (harsichord that lays loud and sot). Since that time the words ianoorte and orteiano (among others) have been used alternatively. In the last decades, however orteiano has become a standard term alied to a category o iano oular in Austria and Germany in about 1780-1800. It was the roer instrument or erorming the iano works o Haydn, Mozart and early Beethoven. There are many dierences between a orteiano and a modern iano, but the most imortant ones to a listener are the bright tone, the shar attack and the raid decay. With the change o musical aesthetics in the latter art o the 18th century, the orteiano ushed the harsichord out o its re-eminent lace as a keyboard instrument. Such a victory was short-lived. Even in the lietime o Beethoven there were several changes to the orteiano as music came out o the home and into the ublic concert hall. By 1900 there was an Early Music Movement both in Euroe and in America. The rincial and earliest result o this activity was the revival o the harsichord. The orteiano was a late-comer to the early music movement. Major credit to its revival is to be given to Malcolm Bilson o Cornell University, whose recordings on it date to the 1970s. Bilson s most ambitious and recent undertaking has been a ten CD set o all o the Beethoven Sonatas on nine dierent orteianos on the Claves label. Bilson erormed seven o the sonatas, while others are erormed by six o his ormer artist-uils. Malcolm Bilson was extraordinarily helul in lending his own ersonal instrument or samling. This instrument is Maene I in the Claves Beethoven series. With the additional hel o Edward Swenson, a iano restorer, and Peter Hoer, a recording engineer, a set o good samles were obtained.
