3 PURDUE UNIVERSITY SYMPHONIC BAND CAMPUS PARADE Campus Parade is an apt title for an album featuring the nation s largest University Band The Purdue Band. A leader among marching bands and one of the country s leading proponents of the pageantry type football show, The Purdue Band also provides a cultural music outlet for the campus community, performing in numerous concerts and recitals. Under the direction of Al G. Wright, the band is a cohesive unit on and off the field. The entire band staff works closely with the director in designing and selecting the best combination of good music, effective formations and interesting marching ideas. The result of these arduous and demanding preparations can be heard in their sparkling renditions. This album vividly demonstrates the precision, snap, zest and musicianship that shapes The Purdue Band s outstanding gridiron and concert performances.

4 The Purdue Band marches onto the field to the gradually increasing tempos of The Broadcaster, a rousing and panoramic description of gridiron events that s as colorful as the sportmaster s commentary. Campus Parade, the title tune, is an on-to-victory spirit-raiser played with vitality and fire, and the boundless energy continues in Youth And Progress, Karl L. King s march of forthright determination dedicated to the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. Another Karl King composition follows the peppy, perky salute to the spirit of the West called Yellowstone Trail. Easy Street Blues is a swinger recalling eye-catching, fast-stepping formations, and The Westerner closes the side with all the git-along hoopla and bravado of a rodeo. Crusade For Freedom opens the second side in flag-waving fashion, brimming with let s-all-stand-together patriotism. Advancing Youth is a lighthearted theme filled with march-on optimism, and Spirituals On Parade is a medley of spirituals in stirring march tempos. The Masquerader, up next, captures the flavor of a festive parade with all the floats and trimmings. Navy Blue brings the fleet in with a pulse-beating dedication to the U.S. Navy the world over, and Madison Square Garden March, in honor of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, is the exciting show-stopping closer. ORIGINAL LINER NOTES

5 Professor Al G. Wright, Director of Bands at Purdue University, is one of the nation s foremost marching band authorities and symphonic band conductors. He has developed a variety of special marching steps and styles for the Purdue pageants as well as contributed numerous arrangements for the band repertory. Though constantly in demand as a band clinician and guest conductor, Professor Wright finds time to serve as honorary member of many musical organisations, including the National Band Association, of which he is currently the President.

6 and more bears RECORDINGS designed for repeated listening For the very first time you now can acquire exclusively through AND MORE BEARS the PT Master Recording catalog, formerly known as 'SESAC Transcribed Library'. Extensive parts of this catalog will be available worldwide for downloading through the regular channels and platforms, as well as CD-on-demand albums. The most important point for music lovers and collectors is the material's exclusiveness: the music was unavailable elsewhere. The musicians and band-leaders were given studio time to record exclusive sessions of extra songs. Successful artists liked SESAC because it meant some extra money. From the very beginning, the repertoire was only available on a loan basis for radio stations every month the stations were given 40 cm transcription discs (later LP-sized discs) that were delivered with complete text information for the radio presenters. For DJs, SESAC transcriptions meant interesting and rare material for their audiences. And the sound quality is brilliant, as the recordings took place in some of America's best studios, and outstanding arrangers worked on these sessions. These recordings were initially produced for SESAC, America's second-oldest copyright society. The library was active from the late 1940s until the early 80s. The rights to the recordings were owned exclusively by the heirs of the SESAC founder and, with a few exceptions, have never been used for vinyl recordings... much less CD. Highlights of the catalogue include: A catalog of more than 7500 songs; Exclusive recordings from jazz giants such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and many others; Ace session musicians and supporting players who were stars in their own right like Alice Coltrane, Nat Adderly, Thad Jones, Kai Winding, Si Zentner, Gary Burton, Andy Williams, Eric Dolphy, Zoot Sims and many, many more; Rare and sought after session recordings with Chet Atkins, The Jordanaires, Anita Kerr, Richard Maltby, Tony Mottola, Nathaniel Shilkret, The Stamps Baxter Men, The Statesmen, Webb Pierce and Faron Young; Extensive classical repertoire with symphony orchestras. 1950s material in categories like Swing, Lounge, Country, Folk, Barbershop, Choir, Cowboy Music, Southern Gospel, Hawaiian, Latin, Marching Bands, Polkas among others.
