The project is being run in prtnership with Riverlnd Youth Thetre (RYT) whose Artistic Director, Olivi Allen, lredy hs her own vibrnt reltionship with the school nd who is keen to do more work with young disbled people in the Riverlnd. LM: The pop-culturl references re from similr er (the 80s nd 90s) which were ll prt of the er tht I grew up in. However, the pop-culturl references work in quite different wy in Skeleton thn in Fntic. With Skeleton, the work ws lredy in its finl stges of development, so Insite Arts hs come onbord to help produce its first sesons here in Adelide nd in Melbourne, s well s help me find pthwys to tour the work interntionlly, which is relly exciting. I spent three yers t the VCA in Melbourne nd used this time to trin yet most importntly find connections with choreogrphers nd mkers of the time. Institutions like these give dncers strong nd supportive plce to lern nd trin but lso llow choreogrphers wy to find the next young performers tht come through. I ws lucky enough to find three incredible dncers for my project who hve spent time progressing their dnce knowledge nd bility in professionl environment. Roger ws one of the very first mle dncers in this country to study t the fmous Amor de Dios Flmenco Dnce Acdemy in Mdrid. In 1954 Roger hd his first encounter with Flmenco, he sw Luisillo s Flmenco Dnce Compny, nd ws totlly entrnced. Since then Roger studied, dnced, performed, directed, choreogrphed nd exmined Flmenco nd Spnish Dnce. He worked with mny prominent compnies in Austrli including Cremin s Dnce Compny (Melbourne), Din Reyes Flmenco (Sydney), Dnz Viv (Perth) nd L Cv Flmenco (Adelide) with Mri Olivres. Veronic first met Roger Hicks in 1976 t flmenco prty. Within couple of yers Roger hd become her min techer nd the one who hd the most influence on her s dncer. He ws to become very good nd close friend in the yers to come. Mny people knew Roger s n ccompnist on pino for bllet clsses nd t the Centre of Performing Arts where he tught flmenco. As hirdresser he lso worked from home where he ws lwys doing someone s hir in the kitchen. According to Veronic everyone who new him hd n musing story to tell bout Roger (lso nicknmed Hzel ). We re blessed to hve hd person with such vst nd comprehensive rtistic knowledge nd experience. Twighlight performnces were held t Crclew in North Adelide on Jnury 22 - Februry 8. Mollison s work is n pproprite precursor to the ply directed by Brdley, which explores the theme of love. Being performed outside in front of the min entrnce to the beutiful Crclew building, the dnce piece sets the tmosphere for the ply. During Shkespere on Love the building blcony is well utilised by Brdley, with the udience comfortbly seted on the lush lwns below. Mollison s ten minute choreogrphy is strong while embrcing soft lines, curves nd syrupy, fluid trnsitions. With light nd shde in the structure, the musiclity within the piece compliments the trck composed by DJ Trip. The theme of mn nd womn meeting nd becoming entngled in love is reflected in the movement s the dnce vocbulry grows in complexity nd energy. The dncers deprt together through the front door of the building thus cementing their reltionship nd love for one nd other. The well-trvelled guest rtists, contemporry dncers Kte Skully nd Tobih Booth-Remmers hve good rpport s the two lovers with strong prtnering, interesting interply nd sound technique. The choreogrphy nd dncers re little limited with the size of the performnce spce lrger crpeted re would be more idel. The simple, contemporry blck nd blue grments worn by the dncers introduce the costume theme used for the ply. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening, s did ll of those who cme out to support South Austrlin independent rtists. This is slick production with solid, insightful rtistic direction by Brdley, nd wonderful performnces by ll.
