Morgana: Yes, she said it would help me sleep. Gaius what is it? Scene 22: Dining room (Stone background, Table and chairs, Door piece in the middle) Gaius: My Lord, I must speak with you about Morgause. While I was treating her wound, I noticed that she wore a bracelet bearing the mark of the Great House of Gorlois. There is only one person other than Morgana that would have cause to wear such a bracelet. Uther: Her half sister. I was led to believe that the child had died. Gaius: The child lives, My Lord. I smuggled her out of Camelot and gave her to the High Priestesses of the Old Religion. Uther: You should have told me, Gaius. Does Morgana know? Gaius: No. Uther: Good. Scene 23: Forest Arthur: We are in Oden s territory. We could be attacked at any moment. ATTACK Merlin: Maybe we should turn back. What if Morgause makes you do something even more dishonorable than breaking your word? Arthur: Be quiet, Merlin. Morgause s castle background is brought onto stage. Merlin: If we weren t sure Morgause was a sorceress before, we do now. Arthur: That must ve been how she defeated me; she was using magic! Merlin: It didn t look like she was. The walk thru the door to the other room. Merlin: If Uther finds out you have collaborated with a sorceress, he will not forgive you. Arthur: Maybe Uther is wrong. Surely not all magic can be evil. Morgause: It is time. Morgause says some magic words, then Ygraine comes out. Arthur: Mother! Ygraine: Arthur! The last time I saw you, you were a little baby. Arthur: I can t bear the thought that you died because of me. Ygraine: It is your father s fault, not yours. We tried and tried, but I just could not have a baby, so your father went to the High Priestesses of the Old Religion and asked them to help. They obliged, but to create a life, a life must be taken. Uther sacrificed my life so I could birth you. Ygraine leaves stage. Merlin: Are you alright? Arthur: We are going back to Camelot. Scene 25: Dining room (Stone background, Table and chairs, Door piece in the middle) Sir Leon and Uther are looking at a map. Arthur walks in. Arthur: I know what you did to my mother. Uther: Leave us. Sir Leon leaves. Arthur: You are a hypocrite and a liar! Arthur throws down his gauntlet. Uther: I will not fight you, Arthur. Arthur attacks Uther. Uther defends. Arthur knocks Uther to the ground and puts his sword to his chest. Merlin comes in. Merlin: It was a lie! Those words were Morgause s, not your mother s! This has been her plan all along! Arthur: Swear to me it isn t true! Uther: I swear. Arthur: I m sorry.

Scene 26: Gaius s house (Stone background, bench, table with potions) Uther is there. Merlin walks in. Uther: I wanted to thank you. You have proven yourself to be a valuable ally in the war against magic. Merlin: Just doing my duty. Uther leaves. Gaius walks in. Gaius: Was that Uther I just saw leaving? Merlin: He wanted to thank me for being a valuable ally in the war against magic. The End
