PRESIDENT S MESSAGE RAFFLE RAMBLIN S BARBARA KINNEY Traditional Jazz lovers loved hearing and dancing to Mission Gold Jazz Band April 22. They served up a real cake walk and we saw the winning cake walker leaving with a real cake!! It was a lot of fun. Next month on MAY 20th (the third Sunday in May) we will be delighted to present the Euphoria Memorial Jazz Band who will be honoring two past members, Jack Mangan and Birch Smith. Musicians from that original group will be here, some coming from a long distance. You will want to be here for this celebration! Remember this is the third Sunday in May. Your Raffle Faerie, Cheri, has one thousand thank-yous to ALL the people who stepped up last month and carried off all my duties. Unfortunately, I had to attend a Memorial Service for a family member who left us all-too-soon. A HUGE thank you to Board President Barbara Kinney, who helped with set-up and logistics. To Linda Allison, who also worked set up, wrangled the ticket sellers, and was in charge of prize distribution. To Mal Silva and Cecelia Maloney, who kept track of the Door Prize info and ticket sales. To Kay McIntyre and Betty Jean Miller, who sold tickets. Lest we forget, our Ambassadors-of-fun, twins Mary and Carol, who also helped with ticket sales. Last but not least, I thank Joyce Taylor, who announced the Door Prize winners, picked up and dropped off all the Raffle items, and generally took over in my place. It is true that it takes a village, and we proved that amazingly with all the help at the April meeting. Thanks to all! Another round of thanks to Dave Forus, for his generous donation of wine. I thank Cecelia Maloney for her donations of CDs. Your Faeire would be remiss not to remind you we need all kinds of donations to keep the raffle going. Candy, packaged cookies, CDs, wine, are ALWAYS gratefully accepted. See you in May! RAFFLE PRIZE WINNERS! This month s Raffle featured a Mother s Day theme. We had wine, a CD, fancy votive candle and a small jewel box. Joe Taddei & Marilee Jensen Mary Weir Lois Rosenblum Cecelia Maloney Max Allison DOOR PRIZE WINNERS! South Bay Trad Jazz Society is proud to present a modern-day incarnation of the Euphoria Jazz Band. As detailed in last month's issue, Euphoria began in the early 1970's and played all over the SF Bay Area. Sadly, two important Euphoria members, Leader Jack Mangan, and cornet player Birch Smith, passed away recently. It is with great respect that the remaining members, plus some additions, will be participating in this Memorial Tribute to Euphoria this month. All of the original arrangements have been preserved and will be played. Original members of Euphoria are reuniting from far and wide for this performance. Karl Walterskirchen will be on Banjo, Brian Richardson on Trombone, and Don Brayton on Tuba. Others joining in the fun will be Leon Oakley-Cornet, Don Neely-Clarinet, Sharon Swenson-Piano, and Steve Apple-Drums. We understand children and grandchildren will be present for this memorial.
