UDEM New Graphic Identity Quick Guide
Our Identity In order to apply UDEM s graphic identity appropriately, it is important to establish a distinction between institutional expressions and brand expressions. Brand Expressions These are all the materials used for communication and the general promotion ofthe University. Only the UDEM logotype should be used on brand expressions. It incorporates the UDEM acronym and thus establishes a link with the Universidad de Monterrey. This is the logotype to be used by collaborators, faculty, andstudents for any design they need to create. Institutional Expressions These are all of the official University materials. The following identity elements are to be used in institutional expressions: University Shield To be used by the Office of the University President (Rectoría) and the Office ofacademic Records and Registrar (Dirección de Servicios Escolares) exclusively. It is mainly applied in degree diplomas, PEF cover pages, official documents, and institutional events. It must not be used by any other department or individual without prior written authorization from the Department of Marketing (Dirección de Mercadotecnia). Note: For use on PEF cover, go to www.udem.edu.mx/identidad to download official cover page file. Lockup A design made up of the university shield and the name of the Universidad demonterrey, it is to be used on institutional stationery, promotional brochures, the institutional website, e-mail signatures, and facility facades exclusively. Its use must be authorized by the Department of Marketing (Dirección de Mercadotecnia).
Versions of UDEM Logotype Collaborators, faculty, and students can make use of the UDEM logotype in either of its two official versions: Primary This version should be given preference in colored materials. It should not be used on a yellow background. If the background is yellow, the secondary logotype should be employed. Do not use this logotype in black and white printing. Secondary It must be used when the background in the design is yellow or when itenhances the design composition. It should not be used over a black or very dark background. Use this version of the logotype in black and white printing. Colors PANTONE BLACK 7 PANTONE YELLOW CMYK 38 35 33 92 CMYK 0 1 100 0 Printing: This refers to any material created for offset printing and which will be sent to a printer, e.g. printing banners, high-volume posters, theses, or any other type of promotional materials. RGB 51 51 51 RGB 255 245 0 HEX # 333333 HEX # FFF500 Digital use: This refers to any material to be viewed on a screen, e.g. websites, e-mail, social networks, videos, Power Point presentations or to the printing of materials on a laser printer, such as the printers located at the Printing Center in the Shady Area (Sombreado) or in the CRGS. * To download the UDEM logotypes for printing or digital use, access udem.edu.mx/logotipo
Proportion The UDEM logotype should always be positioned on the edge of the upper right corner of any design. Its size should be proportional to the dimensions of the document being created and care should be taken that it does not look too big or too small. In order to determine the proportion and size of the logotype, the design area should be vertically divided into fourths, sixths, or eights. The logotype must be scaled to the size of a single fourth, sixth, or eighth. For example, this is a letter-size, vertically-oriented document that was divided into fourths. This means that four UDEM logotypes could be placed in a row, but the logotype should be located on the edge of the upper right corner. Thirds Fourths Sixths Some common uses: a) Letter-size documents with a vertical orientation should be divided into thirds or fourths for proportion. Documents with a horizontal orientation should be divided into sixths for proportion. b) Ledger (tabloid) documents with a vertical or horizontal orientation should be divided into fourths or sixths for proportion. c) Power Point presentations should be divided into fourths or sixths for proportion. d) Square documents (such as e-cards) should be divided into sixths for proportion.
Examples of use: Correct use Guía rápida para el uso correcto de la Identidad UDEM * *Laser printing margin Incorrect use Explanation: 1) Logotype is not located on the edge of the upper right corner. 2) An unauthorized version of the logotype is used which is not in the correct proportion. The logotype appears incomplete. 3) The logotype looks too big because of incorrect proportions. It is not located on the edge of the upper right corner. Note: When a document is printed on a laser printer, it leaves a small white frame around the design. This use is allowed since it is not possible to change the configuration. For any questions regarding the correct use of the UDEM logotype, please contact the Marketing Department (Dirección de Mercadotecnia) at dime@udem.edu.mx. Attach the design to be reviewed and we will gladly provide any assistance necessary.
Checklist It is very easy to find out if a design complies with UDEM s graphic identity guidelines; you just have to check all of the following statements: The design does not use the university shield or a lock-up. One of the two official versions of the UDEM logotype is used: yellow or black. The logotype does not correspond to a restricted use: black with yellow typography or with a transparent background. The logotype is placed on the edge of the upper right corner. The UDEM logotype used is in an official color and it does not disappear or blend into the background of the design. The UDEM logotype is sized proportionally, that is to say, it does not look too big or too small. The UDEM logotype appears in full. It does not look cut off and there is nothing above the logotype or on top of it that blocks it.
