Five Year Facilities Plan
MISSION The Seacoast Repertory Theatre is committed to the cultural richness of the Seacoast region through the shared experience of live theatre and its youth, teen, and senior educational programs. We contribute by producing creative, thoughtful, and high-quality year-round programming as well as collaborating with like-minded arts and cultural organizations. Seacoast Repertory Theatre was founded in 1988 by Eileen and Roy Rogosin, taking up residency in a late 19th century brewery warehouse on Portsmouth s historic Bow Street, converted into theatre space by Joseph Sawtelle and the Bow Street Theatre Trust in an effort to improve the culture and economy of Portsmouth. Since then, Seacoast Rep has served as the Seacoast s only professional regional theatre, serving over 30,000 ticketholders per year. Seacoast Repertory Theatre also houses the Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts, which each year educates hundreds of young performers in all aspects of stagecraft. Seacoast Repertory Theatre came under new management in 2014.
Year 1 HVAC - Goal $150,000 Seacoast Rep is in need of a new climate control system to ensure the comfort of our guests, and our HVAC unit has not been functioning for some time. Currently we have very few ways to heat, and as of this summer, no means to cool our theatre. This, of course, presents an obvious obstacle to keeping our guests comfortable and our staff productive. We plan to install a new HVAC system for the first phase of our facilities plan. We have already had our spaces assessed by HVAC professionals and engineers, and a new efficient and green HVAC could be installed this year with no interruption to our business operations, and could keep our theatre comfortable for at least 30 years.
Year 2 Lobby Remodel - Goal $475,000 After over 25 years, our lobby could use a sprucing up. We are working with our friends at Manypenny Murphy architecture to make some much-needed changes to our lobby, bar, and storefront area. We plan to move our box office to the front of the lobby, facing the street so that it might interface directly with foot traffic. This will allow more room to expand our women s rest room to cut intermission lines. Front windows will open to the street to allow some cafe seating when the weather permits. Our bar will become a fully functional with new storage, an ice machine, draught system, extra sinks, displays, and more seating capacity. Improvements will allow us to serve better drinks, faster. Manypenny Murphy Architecture have drawn some renderings of what our space could look like. Take a look on the next page.
Years 3-4 Theatre Remodel - Goal $525,000 Years three and four will be devoted towards outfitting our theater with the latest in stage technology and audience comfort. Funds will be used towards new sound and lighting systems, new seats, and structural improvements to the stage and technology grid. Better technology will ensure not only that our shows look and sound great, but also will allow us to attract, retain, and develop exciting talent. We will also make the seats not squeaky anymore, and we all want that.
Years 5 Office Remodel - Goal $350,000 Although we are an incredibly hard-working, passionate team, there are things that could help to make us even more productive! For example, having a bathroom a kitchen, and a sink that are not five flights down from work areas would save us hours every month. We re also going to need room to grow. Seacoast Rep maintains fewer employees than other theatres of similar size, and if we re going to grow our theatre, we re going to need offices for them to work in.
