M A I N A T T R A C T I O N S The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Great Britain 2 hr 2 min Terry Gilliam A magical fantasy from Terry Gilliam in the mode of his Baron Munchausen. It features Heath Ledger s last performance, a role that was only half completed. So, Gilliam made the decision to finish the film with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell standing in for Ledger in the fantasy Imaginarium sequences. This remarkably coherent film is both amusing and, at times, brilliant. The Young Victoria Great Britain 1 hr 40 min Jean-Marc Vallee Emily Blunt stars as Queen Victoria in this film that chronicles the monarch s rise to the crown and her romance with Prince Albert. It s a lovely production with gorgeous locations, fabulous costumes and truly excellent performances. With Rupert Friend, Jim Broadbent, Paul Bettany, and Miranda Richardson. Broken Embraces Spain 2 hr 8 min Pedro Almodovar w/subtitles Almodovar s latest is his fourth picture with Penelope Cruz. About a writer who was blinded in an auto accident (for starters), this gorgeous film is half noir and half melodrama. Its intricate plot is enhanced by gripping performances, stunning cinematography and Almodovar s usual stylistic flair. Main Attractions: We try to play each of these films for full multi-week runs. Sometimes, however, because of scheduling conflicts, we are unable to play a film in a timely or complete manner. As a result, we ve added a new series called Limited Engagements for which we ll book smaller or overlooked films for 2 or 3 mid-week screenings, only. Make sure that you sign-up for our weekly email blast, so that you don t miss them. And check our website often for the latest scheduling and showtimes info. Bad Lieutenant USA 2 hr 1 min Werner Herzog Subtitled Port of Call New Orleans, this remake is the twisted tale of a good cop gone bad. Nicolas Cage throws himself into an enthusiastic performance and master director Herzog puts his unpredictable spin on the action. Is it an artistically-sophisticated social commentary or a tawdry B film? Or both? In any event, it s pure unmitigated cinema and an awesome guilty pleasure. Up in the Air USA 1 hr 48 min Jason Reitman The director of Juno and Thank You For Smoking returns with another excellent film, this one about a corporate downsizing expert, played by George Clooney with supreme assurance. The film is funny and moving and it captures the zeitgeist of our economic times. Clooney s performance is perfect and his chemistry with Vera Farmiga is a joy to behold.

M A I N A T T R A C T I O N S The Private Lives of Pippa Lee USA 1 hr 33 min Rebecca Miller An exceptionally well-made family drama starring Robin Wright Penn as a woman who marries an older man (Alan Arkin). Funny and touching and unexpected in its developments. Not that anything significant happens, but it charts a woman s life with charm and lightness, style and feeling. And that s pretty special. The Last Station Great Britain Michael Hoffman THE LAST STATION is a drama about the life and marriage of Russian literary giant Leo Tolstoy, featuring Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren. The elderly Tolstoy has thrown his domestic world into chaos by suggesting that he will leave his property and literary legacy to the Russian people. Paul Giamatti plays a long-term family advisor and James McAvoy is a young man who steps into the unexpected turmoil. Me and Orson Welles USA 1 hr 47 min Richard Linklater Richard Linklater s latest is a drama about a 1937 production of Julius Caesar by the great Orson Welles. The film focuses on the life of a young man cast in the play, but the indisputable highlight is the extraordinary portrayal of the American boy wonder by British actor Christian McKay. At times it s possible to forget that you re watching an actor and really believe you re beholding Welles at work. A light and charming presentation. Fantastic Mr. Fox USA/Great Britain Wes Anderson This adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, using stop-motion animation, is a silly, funny kids film for adults. From tweehipster Wes Anderson, it s the story of a resourceful fox who battles three evil farmers. Featuring a treasure trove of quirky details, retro-gizmos and sweethearted charm, as well as the voice work of Bill Murray, George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Jason Schwartzman. Precious USA 1 hr 49 min Lee Daniels Raw, vibrant and resoundingly hopeful, PRECIOUS is the story of a young woman determined to overcome immense obstacles. Claireece Jones is a 16-yearold African-American girl, living in Harlem in 1987, pregnant a second time by incest. Beset, as well, by an abusive mother and chaos in school, she enters an alternative school, where she begins her journey away from darkness and toward love and self-determination. A powerful and unflinching film. Pirate Radio Great Britain Richard Curtis This congenial and high-spirited film is about a crew of radio DJ s in the sixties. At a time when the BBC limited the public air waves, these motley rebels broadcast the best of rock and roll from a boat off the English coast. Featuring an unprecedented soundtrack that includes the Beatles, the Stones, the Beach Boys, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, Cat Stevens and many more, PIRATE RADIO is a musical marvel. With Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans. A M B L E R T H E A T E R. O R G 2 1 5 3 4 5 7 8 5 5
