Process Fill the reaction vessel with demineralised water, DISPONIL FES 32 P and potassium peroxodisulphate, afterwards flush with nitrogen. Add approx. 5-10 % of the quantity of the monomer blend (dosage 2) as well as the 2 % sodium disulphite solution (dosage 1). Heat reaction vessel to 65-70 C. After the exothermic heat has subsided, the monomer blend (dosage 2) and the 2% sodium disulphite solution are added at a rate by which the reaction temperature ranges between 70 and 75 C (dosage time 1-2 hours) Afterwards post-polymerize for approximately one hour at 75 to 80 C. Cooling of the polymer dispersion to < 40 C. In the cooling stage the ph-value of the dispersion is adjusted with ammonia (25 % solution) to approx. 8. By addition of non-ionics, such as, for example DISPONIL NP 10, DISPONIL NP 3070 or DISPONIL OP 4070, it is possible to poststabilize the polymer dispersion. Dosage Amount to be used quantity is dependent upon the type and amount of the initial monomers as well as upon the polymerization process and the desired properties of the polymer dispersion. In general, the amount added ranges between 0.5 and 5 % DISPONIL FES 32 P (100 % active substance), calculated on the monomers. DISPONIL FES 32 P is suitable as an anionic sole emulsifier. Incoporation frequently takes place, however, in combination with non-ionic coemulsifiers of the DISPONIL NP, DISPONIL OP, DISPONIL LS or DISPONIL TA, DISPONIL A types.
