Invitation to Song 2018-2019 Season

WHO WE ARE The Pittsburgh Camerata is a professional vocal ensemble which has been presenting choral concerts in Pittsburgh since 1974. WHAT WE DO We sing music you won t hear performed anywhere else in Pittsburgh. Some is from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Some is 20th or 21st century music. The remainder might be from any era. All of this music is intended to be sung by a small choir in an intimate space. ABOUT OUR CONCERTS We sing one or two performances of each of five concerts. The first set of performances takes place in October, the second set in December, the third set in February, the one-time performance of Messiah takes place in April and the last performance of the season takes place once, in June. WHERE WE SING OUR CONCERTS Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church 384 Fox Chapel Rd Pittsburgh, PA 15238 www.fcpc.us Mt. Homeward Bound Among Angels Music Spheres of the Britain andbeyond: Folksongs of the British Isles OCTOBER CONCERT DECEMBER CONCERT FEBRUARY CONCERT APRIL CONCERT JUNE CONCERT Saturday, October 20, 2018 7:30 pm Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church Saturday, December 15, 2018 7:30 pm Mt. Lebanon United Lutheran Saturday, February 2, 2019 7:30 pm Westminster Presbyterian Church Saturday, April 13, 2019 3 pm Wednesday, June 5, 2019 7 pm Sunday, October 21, 2018 3 pm Welcome home to a new season with the Pittsburgh Camerata. The fall concert highlights themes of homecoming: leaving home and the path back to the welcome and comfort of home. Autumn is the time when thoughts and memories turn to home, as we return to our regular routines and reflect on our individual journeys. With guests: Mt. Lebanon High School Chamber Choir Ethan LaPlaca, Director Sunday, December 16, 2018 3 pm This special concert centers on the work Among Angels, by British composer Will Todd, for two harps and a cappella double choir. We will also sing music from the 16th to the 21st centuries that evokes images of angels. With guests: The Fox Chapel HS Madrigal Singers Ben Murray, Director Sunday, February 3, 2019 3 pm The universe beckons with images of spheres: our earthly globe, heavenly celestial bodies, the very sky that greets us each morning. Journey with us beyond our earthly existence, as we pique our imaginations to the sights and sounds of the universe. The beloved masterpiece performed with original instruments. With guests: Chatham Baroque and friends Soloists: Katherine Copeland Donaldson, Meghan DeWald Althouse, sopranos Maren Montalbano Brehm, contralto Logan Tanner, countertenor Marco Panuccio, George Milosh, tenors Brian Doherty, Simon Barrad, bass/baritones Join us as we welcome summer with a delightful program of music old and new from the British Isles.

A MESSAGE FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR MARK ANDERSON Welcome Home! Welcome to our 45th season, and my third season as Artistic Director. Whether you are new to the Camerata or have been one of our faithful followers in seasons past, we are grateful for your interest in our ensemble, and are excited about our concerts this season. Join us as we sing of journeys, of angels, marvel at worlds beyond, revel in the glory of a beloved masterwork, and delight in the charms of the formality and frivolity of music from across the pond! As Pittsburgh s professional vocal ensemble, we are deeply interested in bringing our love of music-making to all parts of Allegheny County and beyond. In addition to maintaining our home base in the East End, we have expanded our outreach into Fox Chapel and the South Hills. As we expand our visibility, we hope you will help us expand our following by inviting friends and family who have not yet heard us sing. Not only do we want to sing for you, we want to get to know you. We want to get to know the guests you bring with you. Come visit us at our receptions, let us hear from you through our Facebook page, contact us through our website. Let us know what it is that has brought you to us, and what keeps bringing you back! Again, welcome home to our 45th season. Warmly, Mark A native of Montana, Mark Andrew Anderson began serving as the Artistic Director of The Pittsburgh Camerata in April 2016. He is also Director of Music at Shadyside Presbyterian Church since September 2011. Previously, he served as Organist/Choirmaster at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill (Philadelphia) for fifteen years, in addition to holding prior positions in New York, Kentucky, Texas, and California. Mr. Anderson studied at Westminster Choir College, Indiana University, and The Eastman School of Music. He has taught at Westminster Choir College, Centre College of Kentucky, and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. MUSIC FOR ALL TO HEAR! The Pittsburgh Camerata is committed to making its concert series accessible. If an accommodation would help you fully participate in experiencing our concerts, please contact Gail Luley at gmluley@pittsburghcamerata.org two weeks before the performance.
