Thank you very much for your interest in the 2012 Curtain Call Award. We wish you success and hope your experience will be positive. Introductory Comments/Notes: Applicants will submit a video (on DVD or Video CD) of the applicant performing an aria or art song, chosen to display the applicant s abilities and level of development. (See application below for details.) Entries will be reviewed by a panel of music education professionals, from which five finalists will be chosen. Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Vocal Technique: Demonstrates technical mastery (including phrasing, diction, intonation, dynamics, and tonal quality). Presentation: Delivers a confident, expressive, stylistically informed performance. All finalists will perform at a concert at the Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall at 3p.m. on June 2nd, 2013, at Montclair State University, from which one grand-prize winner will be selected by a panel of expert judges. All finalists will receive one vocal coaching prior to the final event. Subsequent to the event, each finalist will also be invited to participate in Opera New Jersey s Adventures In Opera two-week summer camp. The grand-prize winner will also be given performance opportunities during Opera New Jersey s opera season. 2 2 012 Curtain Call Award 2013 Curtain Call Application

How do you plan on furthering your music studies following graduation? Part 3. Letter of Recommendation Please provide and attach a letter of recommendation 1-2 pages in length on why you are a good candidate for the Curtain Call Award. This letter must be from a legitimate music reference (i.e.: vocal coach, choir teacher). Part 4. Aria/Art Song Selection: Aria/Art Song Submission Please submit a video recording of you performing your selected aria/art song live to the address below. DVDs and Video CDs are both acceptable. For your own benefit, please make sure the quality of the recording is clear. Please be sure to label your DVD or CD with your name, high school, aria selection, and 2013 Curtain Call Awards. Your aria submission should be the only track on the disk. Please note that the submission materials will not be returned.
