Robert Smyth Academy Spring Concert Wednesday 23 rd March 2016 7:00pm

Welcome and thank you very much for attending our Spring Concert, showcasing all the academy ensembles. The annual Spring and Christmas Concerts raise invaluable money for the music department, enabling us to buy new sheet music and equipment for the extracurricular groups. Your continued support is much appreciated. We hope you enjoy tonight s performances. Photos, reports and video performances from tonight s concert will soon be available on the academy website www.rsacademy.co.uk under News and Events as well as on our new performing arts faculty website www.rsaperformingarts.co.uk. Hiring Academy Music Ensembles for External Functions The Jazz Band, Big Band and Soul Band frequently play at private and public functions; anyone interested in hiring the Jazz Band, Big Band or Soul Band, or one of the other academy ensembles, for an event please email hpetersen@rsacademy.co.uk. CDs on sale Before the concert and during the interval you will hear extracts from the Soul and Jazz Bands album Beiswing, which contains 12 tracks of soul and jazz classics. Copies can be purchased tonight for only 5. All money raised from the sales goes back into the music department to buy new equipment. Second-Hand Instruments Wanted If you have a musical instrument for sale or to donate please contact us. All instruments are of interest but we are particularly looking for a couple of tenor saxophones, a double bass, guitars and some more keyboards. We are also interested in acquiring more percussion, especially a xylophone, a marimba, a glockenspiel, and pedal-tuned timpani. World music instruments are also of great interest. Students can save VAT off Musical Instrument Purchases Students who wish to purchase a new musical instrument for use with their musical studies in the academy can take advantage of a scheme offered where the cost of purchasing the instrument will not include VAT. Students have to purchase the instrument through the academy and a form must be completed and signed by authorised academy staff before purchasing the instrument. No VAT refunds can be given retrospectively. The application form and guidelines can be downloaded from our website or email hpetersen@rsacademy.co.uk for further information.
