Escambia County Celebrate Literacy Week Plan--Secondary School Monday, January 22 Tuesday, January 23 Wednesday, January 24 Thursday, January 25 Friday, January 26 Bailey Bellview Ernest Ward Staff Favorites - We're going to have staff bring in copies of their favorite books. We will then take pictures of them with the book and post them on our Bailey Vision with an excerpt. Poem in Your Pocket - We will ask that students either write or print a poem to keep in their pockets all day. At any time, a student might be asked to produce and read the poem out loud. This will be incentivised with our Bailey Buck PBS program as a reward. Six Word Stories -This one is fun! Students have to pack in as much meaning as they possibly can into a story that is only six words long. An example: All quiet on the western front. The best will be read on our morning. Drop Everything and Read - During our Star Block, we will have a dedicated time for students to enjoy reading without interruptions or distractions. Become a Character - Students will be able to dress up as their favorite character from a book. Teachers will be encouraged to participate. We will be featuring the staff picks every morning during our TV, as well as reading poem and six word stories that students have submitted. Million Minute Marathon, begin door decorating contest, Reading Rocks--Wear Funky Socks Score with a Good Book (wear favorite sports team attire) Read My Shirt Day (wear a shirt with an appropriate slogan) SSYRA book talks on the news, door decorating contest, literacy contests in Innovation Center Pajama dress up day - I Am Not Going to Get Up Today (Dr.Seuss) First period teachers begin work on door competition tied to Literacy theme, "Find Yourself in a Book." Crazy Sock Day -Fox in Socks (Dr.Seuss) Continue work on door competitions. Dressed for Success day - Oh! The Places You'll Go (Dr.Seuss) Elective teachers will bring in guest speakers to talk to students about various careers. Continue work on door competitions. Hats Off to Reading, Bingo for Dress Like Your Favorite Books Book Character (wristband day), judge doors Hat Day - Cat in the Hat (Dr.Seuss) Collective School-Wide Reading at the beginning of each class. A featured book on the morning each morning. Dress up days each day. Door competition continued each day. Teachers will sign up to visit the Innovation Center to play a resource citation game. Visitors to the I.C. will be able to guess how many books are in the I.C. for a basket of literacy prizes. Students will submit their favorite books in Google form. The top twenty books will be ordered for the I.C. Find Yourself in a Book! Students will enter to win an FTR book in a daily drawing. We will announce the winners 7th period each day. Teachers who chose to can decorate their door to represent a book that inspires their class. The winning class will win doughnuts!
