Oveview Ask anyone in the Sacamento egion what they think of Capital Public Radio and thei esponses will have a common theme. It s smat, thoughtful and intiguing. Ou band is moe than ou logo, it's actually the stoy othes tell about us. Of couse, ou band also has a visual epesentation in a logo design that s typically seen as pat of ou website, on pint collateal, on billboads and bumpe stickes, as social media icons, and as event bannes and othe poducts we pomote duing fund dives and community events. It continues to evolve as ou platfoms, sevices and poducts change. In this moment of infomation satuation, it s citical that we pesent ou band consistently so it will be easy fo othes to ecognize Capital Public Radio as a patne they can tust. Please use this band guide to get to know the updated logo, the poduction specifications and how to use it appopiately. Wide usage of a band is a good thing consistent usage is a geat thing. The Capital Public Radio band is: Educated Inspiational Intelligent Thoughtful Tustwothy Unbiased Cuious The Logo Refesh Stoy Ou visual band o logo, is made up of the mak efeed to by many as the tee, the type font and a colo family that distinguishes ou offeings. The band efesh takes the existing cp tee monogam and places it into a cicle, giving it moe weight and pesence, especially when pesented in active envionments. We have also developed a set of sub-bands to identify specific opeational aeas of the station, like the Capital Public Radio Netwok, News, Music and the Endowment. To add flexibility to ou sub-bands, we developed a set of abbeviated designs fo use in vey small spaces o when accompanying ou main band to alleviate edundancy. 1

Logo Typogaphy and Clea Space Guide The new font family, Aveni, was selected based on its similaity to the existing font, its lage vaiety of weights and matching italics, and its availability as an open font, poviding cossplatfom flexibility between Macintosh and PC poduction envionments. All of the logo files function without the use of any fonts. The font infomation is povided as suppot fo uses developing mateials that will use the fonts in othe aspects of thei wok. We ae intoducing a seconday set of colos, each of which will be attached to one of the specific aeas of opeations as shown below. News adopts the same ed as ou pimay station colo. The othe thee colos ae designed to distinguish each aea, while the typogaphic consistency povides the unmistakable Capital Public Radio band connection. In the seconday logo designs we intoduce a wam gay colo fo ou name, allowing the functional, desciptive wod to stand out immediately. 4
Logo Uses, File Naming and File Types Guide Each logo design has thee colo fomats as shown below: Colo, black, and evese to white. In addition, each design has files that suppot both digital and pint applications. Depending on you needs, you will be povided with eithe a digital o pint poduction file set. Digital files fo office and web uses These files ae fo Micosoft Wod, PowePoint o web-specific uses. All of these files ae poduced as.jpg and.png fomats fo ease-of-use in office envionments. Each file set comes with the Stacked, Hoizontal and 1 Wod vesions of each design to accommodate needs and available space. Pint poduction files Files fo any pint poduction application. Logo Don ts Don t change the logo colo, even if you think it looks bette. Keep the size of the cicle and the letteing in the same popotion to each othe. It s a balancing act. Don t sepaate the symbol fom the type. They ae maied to each othe, till death do us pat. Don t use the gumby effect and stetch out the logo. Sometimes this happens accidentally and it s easiest to cut and eplace it than to ty to get you placed file back to the coect popotions. Wow, that s had to look at! Avoid stong coloed backgounds that don t povide enough contast with eithe the cicle mak o the type. Avoid placing the logo ove a photo. It s visually too busy and ceates banding confusion. 7

Let the logo beathe! Povide the pope clea space aound the logo, allowing the viewe to see it, unimpeded. See page thee of this guide fo the minimum clea space allowances. CLASSICAL Please don t make any new sub-bands. We will be vey judicious befoe adding to ou 140+ set of logo files. Please leave the sub-band identifie (NETWORK) in place and do not move its position. CAPITAL PUBLIC RADIO Always use the lowe case pesentation of ou name and not all CAPS as shown above. Always maintain the gay colo on the capital public adio name in the sub-bands, and black on the sub-band identifie (NETWORK). Black makes it stand out. Thank you! 8
