WELCOME Tonight it is my great pleasure to welcome you to an evening of beautiful music from your West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. On behalf of WASO, we are thrilled to share this wonderful event with the people of Perth, and with regional Western Australians via a live broadcast and webcast. The City of Perth Symphony in the City encapsulates our mission to touch souls and enrich lives through music. We are passionate about making symphonic music relevant and accessible to the entire state, and our heartfelt thanks go to our two major sponsors, City of Perth and Lotterywest, whose support has enabled us to provide this free event. Thanks must also go to Wesfarmers Arts, WASO s Principal Partner, and media partners The West Australian and 720 ABC Perth. Enjoy the concert and we look forward to welcoming you to a WASO concert in 2017 at our performance home, the Perth Concert Hall. Tonight we celebrate a decade of Symphonies in the City a wonderful tradition that highlights the cultural richness and beauty of our capital city. We are thrilled to partner with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to provide this unique experience for the people of Perth. On behalf of the City of Perth, we are excited to welcome back conductor Guy Noble, who led the inaugural event back in 2007. We would also like to thank the many staff, artists and volunteers for their valuable contribution and for sharing their immense talents with us tonight. Tonight you will hear well-known classics, blockbuster film music, and highlights from the WASO 2017 season, culminating in Tchaikovsky s explosive 1812 Overture as the finale. The City is extremely proud to contribute to this major cultural celebration and on behalf of the City of Perth I hope you enjoy the evening. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2016 City of Perth Symphony in the City on behalf of Lotterywest. We re delighted to continue to partner with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to present this free concert, which marks its tenth anniversary tonight. Lotterywest is proud to support this concert, which takes the magic of a live symphony orchestra to all corners of the state through a regional broadcast. Thank you to the Department of Regional Development and Westlink for their ongoing role in making this broadcast possible. Lotterywest remains the only lottery in Australia where money raised from the sale of games is distributed directly to benefit the WA community through our grants. It s thanks to all of our players that we re able to continue to support great community events, like Symphony in the City, that bring people together. We hope you enjoy the concert you helped make it happen! Janet Holmes à Court AC WASO Chairman Lisa-M.
