Happy New Year!!! UiTM Faculty of Music Music Series January 2017 As the nation s first Faculty of Music in a public institution, the faculty is on a path that will see it emerge as a strong force in music in higher education. The faculty is devoted to the advancement of music and scholarship in Malaysia through academic excellence and high performance standards. Our mission is to prepare students to become professional musicians and music educators in a holistic manner through creative teaching-learning strategies and research. We strive to create a nurturing and supportive environment while challenging students to develop their talents to the fullest. With a student population of over 500 students, the relatively small size of the faculty provides a conducive and productive atmosphere for ensuring individual attention for students in their music studies. We place an importance in maintaining a balanced emphasis on both performance and scholarship while presenting students with the training necessary to excel within their chosen field. The UiTM Facutly of Music is thrilled to continue its 2017 Music Series which promises to be just as full and exciting as previous years. Highlights of this year s exciting events include the Asia Pacific Symposium for Music Education Research (APSMER 2017) in UNESCO World Heritage site, Melaka; Composition workshop and piano masterclass by Maestro Gilbert de Greeve (Belgium); Baroque Transcription for Marimba and violin masterclass by Saori Nakazawa (Japan); workshop and Joint Concert by the UiTM Percussion Ensemble and the Mannheimer Schlagwerk (Germany); and the 8 th UiTM-klpac Malaysian Composer Concerts Series 2017. We sincerely hope that you can join us in some if not all of these events! Have a wonderful 2017 and please support UiTM Faculty of Music! Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramona Mohd Tahir, Dean 1
