AD 4302 POWER LINE ADAPTOR INTRODUCTION The AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor provides a active iterface betwee existig coaxial cable withi a facility ad S-Net devices ad ACUs (Access Cotrol Uits) that are coected with RS- 485 cable. This product elimiates the eed to istall replacemet wirig. The adaptor uses a proprietary multiplexer/demultiplexer circuit that allows power ad data to coexist o the same coaxial cable. I a typical istallatio (Figure 1), oe AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor combies data ad power from the RS-485 cable ad couples (multiplexes) the data ad power oto a coaxial cable. The coaxial cable passes the data ad power to aother adaptor that splits (demultiplexes) the data ad power for use by S-Net devices (digital readers, MI/ROs, ACUs). Figure 1. Cautio Do ot discoect ay coaxial cable without first turig off S-Net power. Failure to heed this cautio ca cause mometary short circuits producig iductive trasiets which ca seriously damage the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor ad other S-Net devices. 1. Discoect power from the S-Net. Cautio Compoets o a PCB (Prited Circuit Board) may be destroyed by static electricity. To miimize this hazard, groud yourself with a wrist-strap clip lead while istallig the PCB ad oly hadle the PCB by its edges. Do ot touch exposed circuity or coector pis, ad do ot rest the PCB o a metal surface. 2. Ope the adaptor eclosure, separatig the PCA from the eclosure. 2

Refer to Figure 3 for more iformatio about coectig to this type of coector. Note The Frame Groud coectio (earest F-Coector) is optioal, but may improve oise immuity i may istallatios. Coect the Frame Groud coectio to coduit, or buildig frame ear the start of the wirig ru. If the Frame Groud is used, esure that the DC Commo Groud (icludig the outer coax coductor) is ot coected to the Frame Groud. Otherwise, a potetial groud loop situatio exists. a. Strip the isulatio from the eds of the RS-485 cable wires. b. Isert the wires ito the appropriate slot of coector TB1 ad tighte the screw. c. Istallatio ad Operatio Maual NexLie Adaptor ASSEMBLING AND MOUNTING THE AD 4302 POWER LINE ADAPTOR After wirig the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor, assemble the uit (Figure 4) ad mout appropriately. Mout the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor as if it were a telephoe coector box (Figure 5), usig a appropriate screw size ad ut to accommodate the 0.140 i (0.35 cm) moutig hole. Istallatio ad Operatio Maual NexLie Adaptor TROUBLESHOOTING THE AD POWER LINE ADAPTOR Use the followig iformatio to assist you i checkig the operatio of the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor. Cautio Do ot discoect ay coaxial cable without first turig off S-Net power. Failure to heed this cautio ca cause mometary short circuits producig iductive trasiets which ca seriously damage the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor ad other S-Net devices. Note that power to dowstream adaptors ca be easily removed by removig the fuse o the upstream adaptors (Figure 2). Cascade Limitatio: Each time that S-Net data gets coverted a certai delay ad certai amout of timig jitter is uavoidably produced. Too much jitter or delay evetually will result i symbol recogitio problems either for the cotroller, the S-Net Device, or both. This meas that the AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptors caot be cascaded beyod what it would take to go ito ad out of coaxial cable oe time. A exceptio to this requiremet is that up to 3 WSE DATA Tees (where the Tees are all termiated by a AD 4302 Power Lie Adaptor) i the coaxial lie are permitted.
