THE SETTLERS HIGH SCHOOL AUDITIONS 2014/2015 20 October 2014 Dear Parents and Learners AUDITIONS FOR 2014/2015 PRODUCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES Learners are encouraged to audition for the following events or activities planned: 1. End-of-Year Concert 2014 2. One Act Play Festival 2015 Directors (Grade 11 only) 3. Golden Jubilee Extravaganza (Musical) 2015 4. Jazz Bands Learners do not need to be Drama or Music students to audition for these activities. Please note the following important arrangements and deadlines: 1. END OF YEAR CONCERT: Learners must complete sections A and D on the audition form. 2. ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL The One Act Play Festival is an Interhouse competition in which the plays are directed by Grade 12 learners. Only directors can apply at this stage and these directors will then arrange auditions for cast members. Please note the following very important arrangements: Interhouse cheerleaders may not participate in the One Act Plays due to the preparation time needed for their various house activities. Learners who are selected for the cast or crew of the One Act Plays, may not be members of the Golden Jubilee Extravaganza (Musical). Only current Grade 11 learners may apply to be directors. These learners must complete sections B and D on the audition form. Directors Audition Application Form Due: Directors Interview Dates: Directors Interview Requirements: Cast Auditions: Rehearsal Times: Friday, 31 October. (See Mrs. T Johannes for more information.) Submit a full production proposal: Script, Cast requirements, Crew requirements, Props, etc Friday, 7 November Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6pm 8:30pm. (22 January to 12 February only) Saturday, 24 January and Saturday 7 February. Event Date: Friday, 13 February 2015 3. JAZZ BANDS Based on the level of skill required, learners can be selected for any of the three Jazz Bands. These bands are not exclusive to Music learners, but it does require players who will cope with improvisation and performance pressure. Therefore beginner instrumentalists cannot be accommodated. These bands are in demand for public performances and will have numerous gigs on Friday evenings and Saturdays. Rehearsal times are: Dynamix: Mondays 2h30 3h45pm and Wednesdays 2h35 3h45pm Chromatix: Tuesdays 2h35 3h45pm and Wednesdays 3h45 5pm Junior Band: Fridays - Assembly and 2 nd break Any learner interested to audition for these bands must arrange and audition time with Mrs. Johannes. (Room 121 in the Music Department). Please note that it is compulsory for all woodwind and brass players in the Jazz bands to also be members of the orchestra.
4. MUSICAL: Golden Jubilee Extravaganza This will be the major cultural event next year as the highlight of the school s 50 th Celebrations. Birthday Learners must complete sections C and D on the audition form. Audition Application Form Due: Audition Date: Saturday, 1 November 2014 Audition Time: Audition Requirements: Rehearsal Times: Between 10am and 8pm. Allocated times will be posted on the Cultural notice board on Monday, 27 October 2014. Learners must be dressed comfortably in the branded sports clothing (tracksuit pants, T-shirt and takkies recommended) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9pm Event Dates: 9 16 May 2015 Learners must be available for full day rehearsals during the following periods: 12-4 January 2015 (last week of holidays) 7-11 April 2015 (April holidays, after Easter) All Public Holiday weekends in Term 2 Freedom Day & Workers Day Learners may audition for any or all of the following aspects for this production: Drama Group Solo Vocalists & Chorus Dancers Band Special Skills Please note that it is compulsory for all vocalists to also be a member of the school choir.
