What is IPTV? SMART TV is the PRODUCT NAME OF IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivers television programming to customers via a broadband connection using IP instead of being delivered through traditional radio frequency broadcast, satellite signal, and cable television formats. It requires a subscription(dsl) and a set-top box, and offers key advantages over existing TV cable and satellite technologies. For standalone IPTV services customer can avail ZERO Kbps package without activating broadband services. However customer requires a modem to run Smart TV. The main servers of IPTV is located in Islamabad & Karachi. Satellite receiver and censoring departments are in MALACH (near Murree). & DHARO (near Karachi).
Difference b/w Cable & SmartTV Cable TV is a service that can be viewed by hooking a cable in TV sets. Customers can only surf the channels without any control over the content. However in case of SMART TV, customers can enjoy a number of interactive services using Electronic Program Guide (EPG) also customer can enjoy live streaming of un-interrupted digital picture quality channels. Moreover he has a full control over the content like parental control and record/rewind features.

Time Shift Television (TSTV) Time Shifted Television is an exciting feature new to this part of the globe. This function is available solely to Smart TV customers. TSTV enables customers to rewind live or broadcast TV channel up to 70 minutes for HUAWEI STB and 120 minutes for ZTE STB. In this way customers have the capability to watch any missed talk show, sports event or any particular program of interest.
Time Shift Television (TSTV)
TV On Demand (TVOD) TVOD is an exciting feature that allows viewers to watch the previous four days programs at their own convenient time. This feature will show on main EPG page. Only PTCL Smart TV offers this feature in Pakistan, putting the viewers in command of watching TV.
PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDING PTCL Smart TV viewers can schedule the recording of their favorite program to be aired in the next/upcoming 4 days. The viewer can watch these recorded programs at his convenient time. The recorded program is stored for 4 days from the time of recording.
Video on Demand (VOD) Video on Demand is a service that provides end users to interactively request and receive videos. VOD permits a customer to select a program from a catalogue using EPG (Electronic Program Guide). The play out of the selected movie starts instantaneously on the customer's TV. A film that is chosen, for example, will be available for multiple viewing during 24 hours without any extra charge. A). Rs 25 per movie for 24 Hours; Customers can subscribe to a movie at Rs 25 and can watch/re-watch that movie multiple times within the next 24 Hours. B). Rs 300 fixed per month for any 30 movies of their choice and available in the list within a period of one month. This is a value added bulk discounted package. Each movie will cost RS.10 to the customer.

Parental Control This feature enables parents to restrict certain channels which are not suitable for juvenile viewing. Restriction is enabled by assigning a password to particular channel(s) thus empowering parents to control the content their children can watch on PTCL Smart TV.
Near Video on Demand NVOD is another exciting feature working like a community TV Channel. A number of channels are allocated for NVOD. Popular or recently released movies and programs are played on NVOD channels and are available to all Smart TV viewers. Difference between VOD & NVOD is that VOD is a personalized service catering only to individual needs on payment whereas NVOD is like community cinema available to all Smart TV customers at no extra cost.

Electronic Program Guide EPG is a browser like IE & Netscape Navigator or Fire fox to help facilitate interaction between user & IPTV OS. Electronic Program Guide (EPG) is an extremely responsive and feature-rich application that manages viewer interaction during channel and program selection. It is an on-screen guide to schedule broadcast television programs, allowing viewers to navigate, select, and discover content by time, title, channel, etc by use of their remote control. It also provides with access to billing details, changing password and managing favorites. Customer can check current bill only for VOD any time on his TV on EPG.

Configuration HUAWEI For configuration, modem must be configured on bridge mode to run IPTV. After turning on Smart TV for the first time a window prompt will be shown in which MW username (Broadband Product ID from BnCC) and password provided by the CPE installer or 00000000 will be given.
By pressing SET button on remote following window prompt will be shown and a password 8288 required to enter
Just go with Network Configuration
Enter the username of IPTV from BnCC, reset the password from I-Click & put in the password field & finally enter password 3008 to exit. STB configuration is done.

Step-3 Select PPoE and enter the AAA user name & password and Middleware user name & Password and Press OK. Note: To enter the Alphabets in the required places press LOC button from the remote control which will enable keyboard on the screen.

PPOE/AAA account In Wireless and Network Select Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) mode In this mode, the STB accesses the network in Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) dialing mode after connecting to a modem.

FAQs Q1. What is TVOD TV? PTCL Smart TV s viewers have the option of catching up with the programs aired in the preceding four days. This feature gives the viewer flexibility of not missing any of their favorite programs and watching them at the time of their convenience. Q2. How do I know if a channel has TVOD TV function enabled? The Channels with TVOD feature can be accessed from the main menu and from the channel list showing TVOD TV icon Q3. How do I use TVOD TV function? Press the TVOD button on your remote to access the list of channels with TVOD TV feature. Select the channel of your choice and the program scheduled of that particular channel will be displayed for you. Select the program that you want to watch and click OK. Q4. What is PVR function? PVR is the abbreviation of personal video recorder; this feature allows the PTCL Smart TV viewers to schedule recording of their favorite programs which are going to be aired in the coming days. The recording can be scheduled for next four days. Q5. How do I know if a channel has PVR function enabled? The Channels with PVR feature can be accessed from the main menu by accessing Personal Video Recorder icon.

In case of NVOD channels, customer feedback plays a pivotal role in content selection. Q16. How can I use the PTCL Smart TV remote control unit for my TV set as well? Your new STB (model EC1309 & EC1208) can act as your TV remote control Unit as well. This can be done by following the below mentioned simple steps. Press the Study Button on your PTCL Smart TV remote control unit for 3 seconds. You will notice that the indicator next to the power key is steady now. Press the Power on the TV study keypad on your PTCL Smart TV remote control unit for 1 second. The indicator starts blinking; this indicates that your STB remote control unit is ready for receiving a signal. Aim the emission port of your TV remote control unit at the emission port of your PTCL Smart TV remote control unit, and hold down Power on your TV remote control for 3 seconds to send a signal. The distance between the two ports must be within 3 cm. If the indicator quickly blinks three times and then is steady on, your PTCL Smart TV remote control unit has received the signal, you can now use your PTCL Smart TV remote control unit for your TV set as well. If the indicator does not respond in the preceding way, your STB remote control has failed to receive the signal. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
