Warriors Magazine, LLC Guest Writer Guidelines Thank you for your decision to become part of the Warriors Magazine family. Warriors Magazine s mission is to provide the average, everyday hardworking individual with the latest information and techniques for personal self-defense. We research, test, and deliver state-of-the art information as well as specific self-defense tools and tactics which have been proven to be effective. We draw from Martial Artists, Military professionals, Law Enforcement, and Legal experts to provide content for each issue. Our articles are filled with practical, hands-on strategies from the world s foremost personal protection leaders presented using interactive media. Writers should query first with a suggested topic, unless otherwise directed by the editors of Warriors Magazine, LLC. Queries should include the title of the piece and provide the essence of the content, not just the topic. For example, instead of submitting an article called Martial Arts fitness, a better approach would be, Enough fuel to finish the fight. The latter indicates a level of specificity that catches the reader s attention and points to a particular area of fitness Warriors Magazine, LLC assumes no responsibility for the return of unsolicited material. All material is submitted on speculation only and submission does not guarantee publication. The editors of Warriors Magazine, LLC reserve the right to edit or reject any submitted work (solicited or not). Types of articles Warriors Magazine, LLC accepts only original content that has not been previously published, unless otherwise arranged by our publisher. Our magazine s subscribers look for hands-on information and how-to type articles that will help them defend themselves and their family. Potential subject matter 1
should be specific to self-defense techniques and strategies, particular tools and weapons, or relevant product reviews. We also accept human interest stories that showcase a warrior lifestyle, articles about fitness and nutrition. The best way to become familiar with the types of articles we publish is to look at the current issue and previous issues (if available). As a digital publication, our magazine uses formats that include text descriptions, plenty of photos examples, and usually some type of video demonstration. Submissions should avoid unsubstantiated claims and instead rely on facts that are corroborated by multiple sources, which Warriors Magazine, LLC will verify prior to publication. Our current departments include: Cover Features (12000 1500 words) Features (1000 1200 words) Winning Tactics (500 750 words) This column focuses on awareness and possible personal defensive tactics. 24 / 7 Warrior (500 750 words) This column focuses on specific self-defense techniques or training drills. (For example: Judo throws for self-defense, Jujitsu submissions, Knife defense, etc.). Get Fit to Fight (500 750 words) This column focuses on fitness and physical conditioning as it pertains to being prepared to defend yourself and your family. Authors should have some level of professional certification. Nutrition with Kristin (no more than 500 words and a video recipe). This column focuses on tips and recipes to maximize the benefits of a healthy diet. Authors should have some level of professional certification. Warrior Stories (500 750 words) This column focuses on human interest stories that highlight courage and a warrior lifestyle. Veteran stories are given preference. Product Review (no more than 500 words and a video). This column is a professional, honest, and respectful review of various types of products to include, but not limited to: self-defense weapons, tactical gear, and training equipment. Product reviews that are highly negative will not be accepted. Reviews need to address five self-defense criteria that the magazine endorses: 1. Effective 2. Always on your person 3. Easy to train with minimal time commitment 4. Strength neutral 5. Gender neutral 2
Submission guidelines Text Article submissions should be original content not previously published. All submissions should include the author name, email address, and source sheets if facts or claims are referenced in the content. In order to be published in the targeted issue, submissions need to be sent no less than 30 days prior to the publish date. All submissions should be submitted in Microsoft WORD via email as an attachment. Sentences should be separated by two (2) spaces. Manuscripts should be typed, single-spaced in Calibri font with a font size of 12. Photos Send only original and unaltered photos. Photos should be sent as attachments, do not send as embedded within the text content. Photos should support and illustrate the test in the article. If photos need placed in a specific location within the text, label the photo and note the location in red Arial 12 font bolded. If photos have a caption, label the caption as separate text with its corresponding photo label. For example, if photo 1 has a caption, the caption should be a separate call-out of text that is labeled photo 1 as well. If photos have a byline, label the byline as separate text with its corresponding photo label. For example, if photo 1 has a byline, the byline should be a separate call-out of text that is labeled photo 1 as well. All photos should be a minimum of 5 megapixels. Do not crop or alter photos prior to submission. If the photograph submitted with a story is by someone other than you, include the contributing photographer s name, email, and phone number if possible. If the photo includes an identifiable person, then the subject s name, email, and phone number will also need to be submitted if possible. A model release may be requested. Photos can easily be uploaded to our photo site on Google drive if there are too many or they are too large to send via email. If the video includes an identifiable person, then the subject s name, email, and phone number will also need to be submitted if possible. A model release may be requested. CONTACT editor@warriorsmagazine.com for access to our easy video upload site. Rights Upon acceptance for publication, an editorial agreement will be forwarded to the author/artist for review. All material must be the original, unpublished work of the author or include permission from the original source. If previously published work is submitted, the contributor must make Warriors Magazine, LLC aware of the request and contact our publisher to discuss the article. A signed agreement must be received before any material is published to protect the contributor and the publisher. Warriors Magazine, LLC will own the exclusive publishing rights for the submitted content, including text, photos, and video. The contributor may NOT post the submission or photos or video in any form (website/blog/ etc.) before the day the submission is published by Warriors Magazine, LLC and extending for a period of 60 days after the publish date (until the next issue is out). The contributor may post a backlink to the submission on his/her own website or blog site, once the magazine is published. This is actually recommended and appreciated. Once the 60 day period is concluded, the articles may be used in other publications with the permission of Warriors Magazine, LLC. This is to avoid submissions to competing publications with the same content as Warriors Magazine, LLC. Warriors Magazine, LLC reserves the right to use portions of the submission, including text, photos, and video, for promotion of the magazine. 4
As payment, Warriors Magazine, LLC agrees to provide one interactive advertisement within the body of the submission to appear in the same issue as your content. 5
Warriors Magazine, LLC - Author(s) Contract This contract is entered into on the date of between Warriors Magazine, LLC (hereinafter known as "Publisher") located at 700 Brush Oaks Drive, Altoona, PA and (hereinafter known as "Author(s)") concerning a written and/or photography and/or video work presently known as (Article title): (hereinafter known as "Work"). The Contract is considered legal and binding in all countries. If there should be any legal dispute, the laws of the state of Pennsylvania shall apply. I. The Author(s) hereby represents and warrants to the Publisher that: A. The Work is free and clear of any counts of libel, plagiarism, breach of privacy or misrepresentation of facts. B. The Work does not infringe upon any copyright or proprietary right, common law or statutory law, and does not contain any material of libelous nature. C. The Work is not and never has been in the public domain and the Author(s) is the sole owner and copyright holder of the work with full power to enter this contract. D. If the Work has been previously published in whole or part, the Author(s) currently holds all copyrights to the Work and is legally permitted to enter this agreement. E. The Author(s) releases Publisher from any responsibilities relating to any legal actions incurred by the contents of the Work or the Author(s). F. If the Work has been previously published in whole or in part, the Author(s) will send in writing those publications in which the Work has appeared. This includes Publication Name, Date, Issue and/or website of Publisher. G. If needed, the Publisher will obtain appropriate ISBNs for the Work under the name of Warriors Magazine, LLC. This representation contained herein are true on the date of the signing of this contract. II. Grantor of Rights: A. The Author(s), on behalf of himself/herself and his/her heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assignees, agrees to grant the Publisher exclusive rights to produce, publish and sell electronic and printed format (including email, download, disk, CD, or any other digital format known or to be invented), of the Work. 6
III Term of Contract: A. Author may NOT post the submission text, photos, or video in any form (website/blog/ etc.) before the day the submission is published by Warriors Magazine, LLC and extending for a period of 60 days after the publish date. Teasers are an exception (see below under Marketing and Promotion). B. Author may post a backlink to the submission on his/her own website or blog site, once the magazine is published. C. Once the 60 day period is concluded, Author may use the articles in other publications with the permission of Warriors Magazine, LLC. D. Worldwide exclusive print rights and electronic rights of all submitted content will be granted to the Publisher upon acceptance of this agreement. E. Publisher reserves the right to sell the Work either in print form or in electronic form. F. When Author(s) are paid for the Work, the rights to the Work remain with the Publisher. G. Upon breach of contract, the Contract may be terminated by either party with a 30 day written notice. Notification of breach and intention to terminate the contract is to be delivered by certified mail or other receipted delivery service. If breaching party corrects breach within 30 days, the Contract shall continue to remain in place. IV. Payments and Statements A. Publisher and Author(s) mutually agree that the Publisher will trade as payment advertising space in the issue that the Author(s) s Work appears. B. The Publisher has the right to contract with distributors, bookstores, vendors, organizations and/or outlets of electronic books and printed material to sell the Work in association with the Publisher's name. C. The Author(s) does not have the right to contract with distributors, bookstores, vendors, organizations and/or outlets of electronic books and printed material to sell the Work while under Contract. D. No royalty shall be paid on paper or digital copies distributed for review, advertising, publicity, promotional purpose, samples, or other similar purposes, or on copies sold below or at cost. VI. Marketing and Promotion A. Author(s) may use up to 300 words to post on his/her website or to give away as "teasers" to promote the work provided it includes a link to Warriors Magazine, LLC. VII Assignment A. Warriors Magazine, LLC " may at any time sell itself, or the majority of itself, its holdings, or licenses. Current Contracts would transfer to the new owner. B. Bankruptcy: If "Warriors Magazine, LLC " is legally judged bankrupt or liquidates its business, this Contract shall be terminated effectively and all rights granted to "Warriors Magazine, LLC " shall be terminated. 7
VIII Entire Agreement This Contract hereby constitutes the entire agreement between Author(s) and Publisher and supersedes all previous agreements regarding the Work, whether oral or in writing. Modification of this contract may only occur in writing, signed by both parties.
