ISBN: 978155739660 CATALOG NUMBER: CB13233 Ryan Meeoer The legend o the great city o Troy varies deending on historical or ictional elie. This city as the location o the long lasting Troan Wars, eteen the eole o Troy and the Greeks. The all o Troy is roaly most accredited to the Greeks lan to uild the Troan Horse, use it to sneak inside cities alls, and deeat Troy s army hile they slet. All the sections o this iece are connected y a single theme. The anare-like oening reresents the eauty and oer o Troy and introduces the theme through the use o the irst e itches. Although comosed in common time, the music has a cut-time eel to it. The director may or may not choose to conduct the iece in 2 or in. The iece s counter-melody is rought in y the lute, ooe, and alto sax at measure 9. As it is ne material to the iece, e sure the layers ring it out, and all the other erormers try not to over lo and ury the sound. urthermore, at measure 17, the tenor sax, tromone, and aritone arts are extremely imortant, as they are the only ones ith motion, so they need to e layed out over the held chord. W The iece moves into its second section at measure 23 and as ritten to reresent the ongoing Troan War. This movement has a little more momentum to it. It is also the irst time e hear the ull theme erormed in the irst variation. Although it is not notated, the melody in this section can e layed ith a slight accented eel to it, to hel add to its oer and excitement. At measure 67, the iece moves into a lyrical section, reresenting the mourning o allen heroes as the city o Troy is tricked into eeling it as victorious against the Greeks. The melody is resented in another variation irst erormed y an alto sax solo. It then moves through the sections, allo each amily o instruments to shine, eore having all the instruments lay together to close the section. As ith all other lyrical ieces, everything should e layed smoothly, hen not slurred. REVIEW REVI inally, measure 8 rings on the inal section o the iece. It is marked aggressively, as the Greeks siege uon the city o Troy y attacking hile the city slees. The melody is resented in its inal orm, irst y the trumets, and olloed y comining this variation ith the oening anare style. Notes should e attacked ith the tongue to reresent the event accordingly and the section should e layed ith the eeling o a ar s inal attle.
