Silent Night Silent Night, holy night All is calm, all is bright Round yon Virgin Mother and Child Holy Infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace. Sleep in heavenly peace. TEXTS Silent Night, holy night Shepherds quake at the sight Glories stream from heaven afar Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia Christ the Saviour is born. Christ the Saviour is born. Silent Night, holy night Son of God, love s pure light Radiant beams from Thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth; Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth. Laudate Dominum (must be set in Latin) Laudate Dominum omnes gentes Laudate eum, omnes populi Quoniam confirmata est Super nos misericordia eius Et veritas Domini manet in aeternum Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto Sicut ersat in principio, et nunc, et semper Et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Translation: Praise the Lord, all nations Praise Him, all people For He has bestowed His mercy upon us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever Glory be to the father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning, is now, and forever. And for generations and generations Amen. Rubies (by Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882) They brought me rubies from the mine, And held them to the sun; I said, they are drops of frozen wine From Eden s vats that run. I looked again, I thought them hearts Of friends to friends unknown Tides that should warm each neighbouring life Are locked in sparkling stone. But fire to thaw that ruddy snow, To break enchanted ice, And give love s scarlet s tides to flow, When shall that sun arise? 7
