VIOLIN 1, 2, 3 Festival Strings Music Booklet Welcome to the 2018 Festival Strings in association with the Christ Church Camerata and the Newcastle Music Festival. In this booklet you will ind all o the arts or the Festival Strings. The reertoire is as ollows: Banney: Australian Folksong Suite Grieg: Holberg Suite (Prelude) Bach: Contraunctus I rom The Art o Fugue The arts are designed to oer oortunities and challenges or layers across a wide range o abilities. The ollowing rough guidelines are suggested in choosing your arts: Violins: Violin 1 sixth grade AMEB and above or Grieg and Bach, third grade AMEB or Folksongs Violin 2 - ith grade AMEB and above or Grieg and Bach, second grade AMEB or Folksongs Violin 3 there are third violin arts in the Folksongs, using oen strings with occasional irst and second ingers. Violas: Viola 1 - sixth grade AMEB and above or Grieg and Bach, third grade AMEB or Folksongs Viola 2 - there are second viola arts in the Folksongs, using oen strings with occasional irst and second ingers. Celli/Bass: Cello 1/Bass 1- sixth grade AMEB and above or Grieg and Bach, third grade AMEB or Folksongs Cello 2 - there are second cello arts in the Folksongs, using oen strings with occasional irst and second/third ingers. Bass 2 available on request Rehearsal dates: Please arrive at each rehearsal 15 to 20 minutes beore the starting time to be ready to lay at the beginning o the rehearsal. A reminder that the rehearsal schedule is as ollows: Sunday, Aug 5, 2-4m* Saturday, Aug 18, 10-11am** Sunday, Aug 19, 12noon-1m (Concert at 2.30m)** *Sandy Warren Hall, Newcastle Grammar School, Union St camus) **Christ Church Cathedral, Church St, Newcastle What to bring: Please bring your instrument, a music stand (clearly labelled with your name), a 2B (or soter) encil and eraser, and water/snack i necessary. About the concert: The concert will be the inale o the Newcastle Music Festival, eaturing Christ Church Camerata with clarinettist David Rowden, conducted by David Danny. In the irst hal o the concert estival strings will oin the Camerata in the second hal o the concert will be given by the Camerata, which will include the Adagio rom Mozart s Clarinet Concert, Graeme Koehne s Time is a River (clarinet and strings), and Tchaikowsky s Serenade or Strings. Dress: Black trousers/skirt, white shirt/blouse, black shoes. (NB no miniskirts lease!) Tickets: Ater laying in the irst hal o the concert, Festival Strings articiants are then entitled to watch the second hal o the concert or ree. For riends, amily and community, tickets are available at the Newcastle Music Festival website ($30/$20/$70). However, there will be a secial oer or estival strings layers each layer will be entitled to urchase two single tickets at $20/10, or one amily ticket or $50. NB - These tickets will only be available at the rehearsals on Aug 5 and Aug 18. They will not be available on the concert day, and they will not be available at the box oice or online.
