FROM THE PRESIDENT It s Not Just About A Hobby Have you heard? The experts are saying that an active social life is good for you. I have in the past talked about the importance of getting to know people with like minds and hobbies as a way to get out and meet new people. It s the feeling oh I have a meeting tonight as I walk out the door to the Wow I really had a good time at the end. The oh so good feeling of elation that comes over you when you converse with people and share a similar experience. I always walk out of a meeting or show with a smile on my face. My job helped me learn some ways to cope, but I will say that being part of this club has helped me get past most of my fears, and being part of a regular group activity can help even us die hard wallflowers. Being part of a social group is an important part of our well being, and no matter what the social group comprises of, get out and join the fun. I looked at it on September 29. It contains up-todate stamp news and articles covering many topics. It showed stamps honoring people who were born on September 29. There was a report that the stamp show, NORDIA 2015 will change its venue because the original show hotel in Stockholm is now accepting asylum seekers. The new location for the show has not yet been named. It reported that the United Nations has issued a special pane of stamps for the pope s visit. There is an article on remote Penrhyn Island and its intriguing postage stamps. There is a stamp market tip of the week. There are also audio and video Monday Morning Briefs talking about a Bolivia migrant stamp, the Duck Stamp contest, another upright Jenny pane being found (which according to USPS is number 20 out of 100), and Hoodoos on worldwide stamps. There are many other features including several blogs. It looks like the website may be updated every week. It would be easy to spend an hour or more (or less) on the website. KAREN NURMI GETS LISTING IN SCOTT CATALOG FOR MALI STAMP SHE DISCOVERED At the September club meeting, Karen reported to the club that she had obtained a new Scott catalog listing for a Mali stamp. I requested that she send me information about the matter so that it could be reported in Willamette Stamp & Tongs, which she graciously did. She found a Mali 385fr stamp from 2005 that had not been listed in the Scott catalog and proceeded to write Scott Publishing Company about the stamp. Martin J. Frankevicz, Scott s New Issues Editor, asked to borrow the stamp so that they could list it. He explained that Scott needs the actual stamp to take measurements and get a proper scan of it. He said that Scott generally holds on to borrowed stamps for 8-12 weeks as they go through the listing process. Karen sent the stamp to Scott and about 8 weeks later, the stamp was sent back to Karen thanking her for letting them borrow the stamp and informing her that it had been assigned Scott Catalog number 1146. Scott had showed the 2005 issue commemorating the 23 rd Summit of Heads of State of Africa and France with two 195 fr stamps assigned Scott numbers 1141 and 1142, with a footnote then stating Two additional stamps were issued in this set. The editors would like to examine any examples. Karen found an example, sent it to Scott and it got listed.
