VITCCMAKEATHON 2016 VITCCMAKEATHON 2016 an IoT based Makeathon was organized and conducted by School of Electronics Engineering on 16 th & 17 th of April, 2016. It is the first of its kind in the area of IoT(Internet of Things) conducted at VIT Chennai. SPONSORS The event was proudly sponsored by PTC, India and D-Link. PTC provided access to Thingworx an IoT platform, to all the participants free of cost. D-Link provided the winners certificate worth Rs. 40000/-. Microsoft joined the event as Technology partner by providing 200 passes of Microsoft Azure each worth 100$ and S2G(Spot2Get) a startup venture by VIT University, chennai students provided the hardware support required by participants.

Connecting to IoT Platform As a prelude to Makeathon, sessions on connecting to Thingworx and Microsoft azure was conducted respectively by Mr. Pramod Principal IoT consultant from PTC, India and Dr. Bharghavarajaram, Assistant Professor(Sr.,) of VIT University, Chennai respectively. Inauguration The Makeathon was inaugurated by Dr. Gunasekaran, ProVC Chennai campus in presence of Dr. Prabaharan SRS, DEAN Chennai campus and Mr. Pramod of PTC at 2:00 PM on 16 th April, 2016.

Participation 102 teams registered for the event out of which 75 were shortlisted by a team of Panel Members headed by Dr. Bharghavarajaram. Among the shortlisted teams there are 28 teams from VIT University(Chennai and Vellore campus) and 14 teams from SRM University, RMK Engineering college, SRM Easwari engineering college, Mahendra Engineering college and Sona engineering college in salem, Sri sai ram Engineering college in chennai, VSB Engineering college in karur, Anjalai ammal Mahalingam engineering college and Christ The king engineering college participated. In between the event participants are encouraged to share their work in social forums to evaluate their technical competencies by various peoples and the most innovative ones were gifted with the goodies. The event was first of its kind in the area of IoT in VIT Chennai campus. 2. The event was conducted fully Digital mode (Registration & Evaluation) to mark the VIT chennai campus goal of Digital India achievement.

Testimonial IoT is a very important domain and the hot topic across the globe. IoT is something more than the internet and connect the physical and the virtual world. IoT can make the verticals such as Power, Safety and Surveillance, Intelligent Transport Systems, Health, Intelligent buildings and homes etc, Smart by providing real time data, which can be analyzed using various data paralytics techniques to create intelligence. Intelligence can be used for planning and various operational decisions. A number of international organizations such as ITU, OneM2M, AIoTI etc are working on developing standards in IoT domain. ITU is having Study Group-20 on IoT and its applications on Smart Cities and communities. This event is being held in time as it will help in developing ecosystem in the IoT domain, which may be used in developing Smart Cities.
