Isn t it is a question tag (very common in English). It is a short question at the end of a sentence. It is not a real question, it starts a conversation. It is the equivalence of our n est-ce pas? in French. Form: - The same tense is used in the main verb and the question tag - A positive main verb...> a negative question tag - A negative main verb.> a positive question tag Summary: Question tags with verb BE Positive verb + negative question tag Negative verb + positive question tag I am right, aren t I? 6. English pronunciation: falling intonation in question tags Using intonation for communication gives different messages. Question tags have a falling intonation. B) The time 1) Usual method The English use a Twelve- hour clock (12 Hour clock) Use the numbers 1 to 12, to tell the hour say o clock = on the clock Ex. (nine) 9 o clock (five) 5 o clock (when the long needle is strike on the hour) For the minutes, use the numbers 1 to 59 9.40 = nine forty The Greenwich Meridian is the base for setting the time all over the world A.M = ante Meridian (before the meridian) : it s the morning P.M = Post meridian (after the meridian): it s the afternoon 12.00 AM = noon 12.00 PM = midnight In the morning, you tell the time using A.M Ex. 1.00 am, 2.00 am,9.00 am Noon (12.00 am) In the afternoon, you tell the time using P.M Ex. 1.00 pm, 2.00 pm.. 5.00 pm.midnight (12.00 pm) 2) Second method A clock is divided in two halves And four quarters Half Quarter In the first half (from 1 to 6): minutes are PAST the hour Ex. 9. 05 = five past nine minutes In the second half (From 7 to 12): minutes go TO the hour Ex 10. 40 = twenty to eleven (11.00 10.40 = 20 min) Considering quarters: 10.15 = a quarter past ten 10.30 = half past ten 10.45 = a quarter to eleven

British culture: Temperatures In France we use centigrade (Celsius degrees ), but in Britain, they measure in both centigrade and Fahrenheit degrees ( F) 0 c = 32 F To transform a temperature from centigrade to Fahrenheit degrees: 0 c = 32 F 90 C = 212 F 1 F = 5/9 C (Pour convertir en degrés Celsius une température donnée en degrés Fahrenheit, il suffit de soustraire 32, de multiplier le résultat par 5 et de diviser par 9 le nombre ainsi obtenu. Pour 50 F, on obtient : 50 32=18, puis 18 x 5=90, puis 90/9=10, donc 50 F = 10 C.)
