Artistic Directors Report! The last couple of weeks we have been busy learning new repertoire and getting to know each other. I have greatly enjoyed my first few weeks conducting all our young singers. I am particularly impressed with how everyone has absorbed the new music. It is fabulous to see everyone deploying the music literacy skills delivered by my fabulous colleagues, Naomi Heyden and Simon Loveless. Many thanks to Annette who has worked tirelessly to keep our music catalogue in good order. Whilst these are early days as the Artistic Director there is something pressing on my conscience. As you are no doubt aware we are currently a small choir. It is imperative that we grow our membership. There are so many co-curricular activities vying for the attention of our young people! However, I believe this is a special organisation that holds the potential to nurture many more young people. We want to nurture them not only as musicians but as positive, independent and happy citizens in our society. If you feel inclined, I encourage you to spread the word about our choir with friends and colleagues who may have youth interested in joining us. I hope our upcoming performances will help to promote the rich program we have to offer. Ultimately, our young people will gain the most benefit from adding to our numbers. Aside from delivering a larger sound as an ensemble there is the added benefit of making new friends. Personally, I am thankful for the several close friends made through choirs in my childhood. Thank you to the many who volunteer time to the choir or help spread the word about us. The end of year is fast approaching and I hope to build the momentum for our final concerts. Please don't hesitate to put us in touch with anyone interested in the M.Y.C. I would welcome any young people who would like to come along for a trial rehearsal and join in the fun! Warm regards, Daniel Brinsmead Artistic Director the Melbourne Youth Chorale B.Mus (Hons.) M.Mus 2

Sheet Music Annette Wright has done a fantastic job doing many hours of work cataloguing all of our sheet music. We are very appreciative of all the work that she ha s put into this task. Part of honoring all the hard work she has put into this job is taking care of the sheet music that we hand out. We ask that all students issued with music on loan from the choir take care of it by storing it flat in alphabetical order in the folders provided. Rehearsal Attendance We hope you all had a fantastic time over the September holidays. It would be great if you could all get to rehearsals on time. Heffernan / Dunlop rehearsing from 4:45pm to 6:15pm (Heffernan finish 5:30pm) Jones rehearsing from 5:15pm to 7:45pm If your child is unable to attend a choir rehearsal please let your rehearsal manager know. Contact details for each manager are below: Tiffany Dawson (Heffernan / Dunlop) Ph: 0435 347 647 Annette Wright (Jones / Herriot) Ph: 0434 431 191 Promotional Opportunities As Daniel mentioned in his monthly report we would love to increase our choir numbers to maximize the experience for our members. Please take some flyers with you to distribute at your school and to family and friends. We would love to hear your ideas about how we can promote the choir further. Please chat to Sarah at rehearsals or send an email through to manager.myc@gmail.com 4
