SELECTED SERIES Over 5,000 titles in the field of History, Archaeology, Religious Studies, Manuscript Studies, Medieval Studies, Art History, Near Eastern & Oriental Studies, Modern Languages & Literatures, History of Sciences.

Brepols Publishers is an international academic publisher of works in the humanities The focus of Brepols Publishers' publications lies in "sourceworks" from Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. By this is meant critical editions of original texts and documents in their original language, reference works such as encycolopaedias, handbooks and bibliographies, as well as monograph studies and cutting-edge research. Brepols Publishers mission is to publish works with an outstanding academic reputation in the field of Europe's cultural roots and its wider sphere of influence. Such publications fall mainly within the disciplines of history and archaeology, language and literature, music, art and architectural history. Fundamental series like the Corpus Christianorum (of about 500 volumes) and electronic publications such as the Library of Latin Texts (LLT) and the International Medieval Bibliography (IMB), as well as co-operation with highly respected institutes like the IRHT (Paris) and the International Medieval Institute (Leeds), demonstrate why Brepols' works are being used in every well-respected academic library throughout the world. Please let us introduce you to some of our famous book series! Religious Studies CORPUS CHRISTIANORUM The mission of this longstanding project is to produce critical editions of texts by Christian authors from Late Antiquity till the end of the Middle Ages, with the expectation that they will serve as reference-works of first resort for scholars worldwide. The core task of Corpus Christianorum, namely the editions of primarily Latin and Greek texts, is supplemented by the production of ancillary handbooks, bibliographies, monographic studies and electronic databases. www.corpuschristianorum.org CORPUS CHRISTIANORUM IN TRANSLATION The series Corpus Christianorum in Translation provides modern translations of patristic and medieval Greek and Latin texts that have been edited in one of the Corpus Christianorum series (Series Latina, Series Graeca and Continuatio Mediaevalis). These translations, which are published independently from the critical editions, are intended to render the texts edited in Corpus Christianorum accessible to those who do not have the opportunity to read them in the original language. For those conversant with the original language, the translations can serve as a tool for quick reference and an aid in interpreting the Greek or Latin text. PATROLOGIA ORIENTALIS The Patrologia Orientalis is a collection of more than 200 writings by Eastern Church Fathers in Syriac, Arabic, Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Greek, Georgian and Slavonic, published with a Latin, English, Italian or mostly French translation. BIBLIOTHÈQUE AUGUSTINIENNE Founded in 1933, this series is intended to offer the reader a complete edition of Augustine s works. Each volume offers besides a substantial introduction the Latin text with a French translation on the facing page. The series also includes some considerable annotation. The complete Bibliothèque Augustinienne will comprise approximately 85 volumes. The series is published by the Institut d Études Augustiniennes and is distributed internationally by Brepols Publishers.

Manuscript Studies BIBLIOLOGIA The series contains studies concerning "bibliology", that is the sum of disciplines that deal with books, whether manuscript or printed, the history of books, book-collectors, book-dealing, bibliography and "bibliothéconomie". MONUMENTA PALAEOGRAPHICA MEDII AEVI This collection is dedicated to original-size facsimile publications. Volumes also contain transcripts and a critical study of visual documents of all kinds, grouped thematically, relating to the medieval history of different European countries. The objectives of the series are the benefit of scholarship and the conversation of European heritage. Review: For a period like the tenth century, which is in many respects so remote, these documents are an inestimable treasure that will be of value for many years to come. (G. Constable in: Speculum, January 2002, p.130-132) Subseries: Series Gallica, Series Graeca, Series Hebraica, Series Hispanica, Series Ibero- Caucasica ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS IN CAMBRIDGE A Catalogue of Western Book Illumination in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges The catalogue of Western illuminated manuscripts and incunabula in the collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges is based on the studies undertaken by the Cambridge Illuminations Research Project under the direction of Professor Nigel Morgan and Dr. Stella Panayotova. Some 3000 manuscripts are being catalogued according to their place of origin and school of illumination, dating from the sixth to the sixteenth century and covering a wide range of texts both in Latin and in vernacular languages. The catalogue is in five multi-volume parts. Review: The series will be a landmark in manuscript studies ( ) (Rowan Watson, in: The Burlington Magazine, CLIV, December 2012, p. 847) History of Science THE PAPER MUSEUM OF CASSIANO DAL POZZO THE MUSEO CARTACEO, or Paper Museum, is a collection of more than 7,000 watercolours, drawings and prints, assembled during the seventeenth century by the famous Roman patron and collector, Cassiano dal Pozzo, and his brother Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo. It represents one of the most significant attempts ever made before the age of photography to embrace all human knowledge in visual form. Subseries: A: Antiquities & Architecture - B: Natural History Review: Sets impressive standards and amply demonstrates the value of the drawings. (Times Literary Supplement) DE DIVERSIS ARTIBUS The International Academy of the History of Science, founded in 1928, gathers leading historians of science worldwide. Its collection of studies, De Diversis Artibus, publishes papers of a high scholarly level covering all the fields and periods of the history of science and technology in French, English, German, Italian or Spanish, as well as the proceedings of colloquia and international congresses of history of science.

Medieval History & Medieval Literature TYPOLOGIE DES SOURCES DU MOYEN ÂGE OCCIDENTAL The Typologie is based on the premise that any historical issue is illuminated by sources and research is necessarily founded on rigorous examination of these sources. Without an understanding of the specific characteristics of each type of source the scholar can be led astray. The Typologie aims to define these characteristics and the rules for the interpretation of each type of source. ATELIER DU MÉDIÉVISTE This series offers practical handbooks on the auxiliary disciplines in medieval history and on medieval languages. The series currently comprises eleven volumes on topics as diverse as medieval languages, diplomatics, epigraphy, numismatics, religious life, etc. STUDIES IN THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES This series focuses on Western Europe in the Early Middle Ages and covers work in the areas of history, literature, archaeology, art history and religious studies. The series aims to bring together current scholarship on early medieval Britain with scholarship on western mainland Europe and Viking Scandinavia, more traditionally studied separately or in terms of the interaction of discrete cultures and areas. BURGUNDICA The series "Burgundica" throws light on the ages of the Valois dukes of Burgundy and their immediate successors, Maximilian and Philip of Habsburg, and how through them Europe was moving into the modern era. The series puts a particular emphasis on the political, economic, cultural and spiritual aspects. LA CHANSON DE ROLAND THE SONG OF ROLAND: THE FRENCH CORPUS This edition brings together for the first time all the French texts of the Song of Roland, edited according to the highest scholarly standards. No reliable complete edition of the various versions of the French corpus of this poem, the most important of the chansons de geste and a recognized masterpiece of world epic, has been available until now. A separate volume contains the complete translations of Oxford and CV7, plus an introduction, notes, and indices of proper names and place-names that pertain to both texts.

Renaissance & Early Modern History ARCHITECTURA MODERNA The studies presented in this series focus on the phenomena of exchange and influence in European architecture, which link together the architectural production of Northern and Central Europe during the 16 th and 17 th centuries, at the heart of which stood the Low Countries. No level of exchange is excluded, be it the trade in building materials, the migration of architects and engineers, the architectural book and print market, architectural theory, networks of patronage. The field covers both civil and military architecture, the cities and the court. EUROPA HUMANISTICA This series presents the results of research undertaken by various national teams. The volumes demonstrate how the literature of the Ancient, Patristic and Medieval periods became available to the humanists. They provide a systematic inventory of editions, translations and commentaries of texts 'rediscovered' by humanist scholars of the Renaissance. Subseries: La France des Humanistes, Die deutschen Humanisten, Humanistes du bassin des Carpates, Du manuscrit à l'imprimé LATE MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN STUDIES Jointly directed by scholars from the University of Melbourne and the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, this series covers the historical period in Western and Central Europe from c. 1300 to c. 1650. It concentrates on topics of broad cultural, religious, intellectual and literary history. Late Antiquity ANTIQUITÉ TARDIVE The Association s journal aims at enriching the study of written texts from the fourth to the seventh centuries by setting these into a wider context using a multidisciplinary approach covering history, archaeology, epigraphy, law and philology. BIBLIOTHÈQUE DE L ANTIQUITÉ TARDIVE The Bibliothèque de l'antiquité Tardive series aims at the publication of monographs and miscellanies dealing with the archeology of Late Antiquity. The series is directed by the editorial board of the journal Antiquité Tardive.

Harvey Miller Publishers CORPUS RUBENIANUM This definitive Catalogue Raisonné of the work of the great Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens is being published in twenty-seven parts, some parts appearing in more than one volume. The Corpus is based on the material assembled over several decades by Ludwig Burchard, universally recognized as the foremost scholar in this field. After Dr Burchard's death in 1960, his material was handed over to the City of Antwerp to be edited by the Nationaal Centrum voor de Plastische Kunsten van de XVI de en de XVII de Eeuw. Each part is written by a well-known scholar and the aim is to realize Burchard's intention of embodying all present-day knowledge of the work of Rubens. Review: [...] the highest standards of scholarship in the series. [...] with the customary lavish illustrations in the uniform format that has graced the entire series. (Larry Silver, in: The Art Book, 17/2, May 2010, p. 41) THE FLORENCE DUOMO PROJECT The cathedral or Duomo of S. Maria del Fiore in Florence ranks as one of the most influential buildings of Western architecture. The Florence Duomo Project is a study of everything that preceded, and still lies beneath, S. Maria del Fiore and its Baptistery. These four volumes interweave church liturgy, field archaeology, art history, and social and political history to give the Florence Duomo (and, in some cases, early medieval Florence itself) the context that until now it lacked. Other Harvey Miller Series: Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Art History, Felsina Pittrice, The Illustrated Beatus,... Art History PICTURA NOVA This series is devoted to Flemish painting and drawing, c.1550-1700. The dominant artists of this fruitful period were Bruegel, Rubens and Van Dyck. Yet considering the attention that has been accorded to artistic developments of the time in other European countries, especially Holland and Italy, Flemish art remains relatively underexposed. Other Series in Art History: Ars Nova, Contributions to the Study of the Flemish Primitives, La pittura medievale a Roma (Medieval Painting in Rome 312-1431), Corpus of 15 th -Century Painting in the Former Southern Netherlands, Corpus of Spanish Drawings, Studies in Western Tapestry. History of Music SPECULUM MUSICAE The series is to consist of important musicological monographs and miscellanca covering the whole range of music history from Antiquity to the present. ÉPITOME MUSICAL Épitome musical is a series published by the Centre d'études Supérieures de la Renaissance de Tours (France). The series presents the results of the musicological research by the Center and focuses on two particular aspects: research in Renaissance music history and musicology, and critical editions of important works.

Byzantine, Near Eastern and Oriental Studies ENCYCLOPAEDIC PROSOPOGRAPHICAL LEXICON OF BYZANTINE HISTORY AND CIVILIZATION The Lexicon is a multivolume encyclopaedic lexicon aiming to cover the whole of Byzantine prosopography for the period c. 300 to c. 1500 CE by an estimated 7,000 entries on the chief personalities, families and dynasties that gave the Byzantine Empire its profile. It makes available in an accessible way a vast array of subjects, so that the real themes of Byzantine history can shine through. It aims to spell out for ready consultation, with detailed bibliographies of sources and secondary works, what it takes to be conversant with Byzantine history and civilization. Review: It will be a fundamental work of reference for all byzantinists. (Alan Harvey, in: Prosopon Newsletter, 9, July 1998) SUBARTU The series Subartu is devoted to Upper Mesopotamia from prehistory to the present day (in relation to geography, environment, history, archaeology, epigraphy, sociology). If any region can be considered to be the cradle of European civilisation it is Upper Mesopotamia, located in present-day Turkey, Syria and Iraq. It is the land between the Tigris and the Euphrates which witnessed the emergence of the most ancient villages and cities. Neglected for many years by scholars who concentrated instead on the Sumerian region, this other Mesopotamia has been a worldwide focus for research for some ten years now. Over thirty national archaeological missions have set up camp on sites crucial for understanding the origins of European culture. INDICOPLEUSTOI - Archaeology of the Indian Ocean This series publishes research into the antiquity of the Indian Ocean (history, archaeology, philology) from the very first populations to the arrival of the Portuguese in the fifteenth century. The series is published by Brepols in collaboration with the Institut d Études Orientales, the Academie des Sciences de Russie and the Maison de l Orient et de la Méditerranée. STUDIA ANTIQUA AUSTRALIENSIA This refereed text and monograph series on Antiquity is based at the Ancient History Documentary Research Centre at Macquarie University but many of its authors will be from other universities in Australia and New Zealand. Cartography TERRARUM ORBIS The series gathers together, in a completely open way, studies on any aspect of the representation of geographical and cosmographical space: textual represen-tations as well as pictorial or cartographical ones, and representations of space on a large or small scale. Ten volumes published. Review: This excellent series is edited by the eminent French scholar, Patrick Gautier Dalché. The quality of the scholarship and the excellence of the production make these truly desirable books for the historian of cartography. (E. Edson in: The Portolan, N 67, Winter 2006, p. 57-58).

Social & Economic History RURAL ECONOMY AND SOCIETY IN NORTH-WESTERN EUROPE, 500-2000 In these volumes (c.400 pages each), an international team of more than 60 well-known researchers aims to explain how rural societies around the North Sea coped with the enormous social changes between the sixth and the twenty-first centuries. These publications investigate the relationship between economic growth and ecological constraints, between markets and income structures as well as between lords, governments and peasants. Over the past millennium and more, the regions surrounding the North Sea have developed from the periphery of the Mediterranean world to the core of the modern world economy. A crucial element in this world-historical process is the restructuring of physical, demographic, economic and social relationships within these rural societies. The four volumes of the series focus on the rural producers as central actors. They explore four core processes that configured rural production and survival. COMPARATIVE RURAL HISTORY OF THE NORTH SEA AREA Corn is a research network composed out of different research units that primarily want to study long term development of the rural society from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. It focuses on the North Sea Area from a comparative and interdisciplinary point of view. RURALIA The papers and posters offer a presentation of current problems in rural archaeology, strengthening the exchange of knowledge in, and the multifaceted development of, archaeologically comparable studies, and making archaeological results available to other scientific disciplines. Modern Languages and Literatures MARCEL PROUST. CAHIERS 1 À 75 DE LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE NATIONALE DE FRANCE Marcel Proust collection conserved in the Manuscrits department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (French National Library) was started in 1962 and completed in 1984 and is remarkable for its exceptional richness. Cahiers 1 à 75 de la Bibliothèque nationale de France has been prepared by an international team that brought together twenty specialists. Each cahier will result in two volumes: volume 1 will contain a facsimile of the manuscript in its original format; volume 2 will contain an exhaustive diplomatic transcription and a rich critical analysis. The two complementary volumes will provide an appreciable comfort read and contain an amount of information that is unprecedented in the study of Proust. Review: The importance of this and future editions of the cahiers for scholars working in the field of genetic criticism is immeasurable. These volumes also offer a fascinating addition to Proustian scholarship more generally by making such high-quality and meticulously annotated reproductions accessible outside the BnF. Moreover, the quality of these editions feels considerably closer to the originals than the microfiche format in which they are now accessed in the BnF. The publication of further cahiers is thus to be eagerly awaited. (M.
