Fiber Optic Product Overview
Fiber Optic Product Overview Competence and Experience Schleuniger AG was founded in Switzerland in 1985. Our first product was a semi-automatic coaxial cable stripping machine that became an overnight success. From the beginning, we have sought to be a world leader in the processing of all types of wire and cables, with a core competence in stripping technology. In 1992, Schleuniger revolutionized the fiber optic cable assembly business with the introduction of the FiberOptic 7045. This machine replaced hand tools used in the preparation of fiber ends for termination, bringing repeatable automation to the fiber optic cable assembly industry. As the fiber optic industry has grown, we have been constantly developing new processes and equipment to address the ever increasing range of applications. We are adept in finding solutions to eliminate manual processes while increasing quality and efficiency. Schleuniger equipment is used by leading OEM s, subcontractors and field personnel worldwide to produce optical components and cable assemblies. Primary industries served are Telecom/Datacom, Photonics Component Manufacturing and Military/Aerospace. Some typical enduser applications are: Pigtail and patch cord assemblies Fusion splicing preparation Bragg gratings Fiber metallization When it comes to fiber optic cable processing, Schleuniger has the right solution for your application.
Controlled Process for Repeatable Quality Glass Optical Fiber (GOF) must be processed very carefully to ensure its long term integrity and performance in the field. The stripping step is especially crucial, since this is where the fiber s protective layers are removed, exposing the bare glass fiber. Process variables must be carefully controlled to ensure repeatable quality. This begins with precision blade geometry and an integrated centering system. A temperature controlled heating system is used to soften primary and secondary coatings for an adjustable dwell time, making them easier to remove. The coatings are stripped cleanly from the fiber at a constant, adjustable speed. Precise control of all parameters is necessary to optimize and maintain the quality of the strip for a particular application. Application and Process Range Schleuniger offers a wide range of equipment to handle an even wider range of materials. From coated and buffered fibers to jacketed simplex and duplex cables, we offer semiand automatic equipment to handle your processing requirements. Process steps include feeding, marking, measuring, cutting, stripping, slitting, crimping, coiling, and tying. Semi-Automatic Processing Solutions UniStrip 2545 The universal design allows the user to strip cable jackets from a wide range of jacketed cables. The user can quickly dial in the desired stripping length and stripping diameter for different jobs. The machine cycle is triggered by a cable end sensor, making it easy to use. The machine offers an economical alternative to the FiberOptic 7045 or the PowerStrip 9500 FO. FiberOptic 7010 The Kevlar strength members are easily trimmed to length with the FiberOptic 7010. The remaining Kevlar length (with respect to the outer jacket) is preset using the integrated scale. All of the Kevlar fibers are safety collected, keeping the workplace air and area clean. This machine offers the same high quality Kevlar cutting mechanism as found on our top of the line FiberOptic 7045. FiberStrip 7030 The FiberStrip 7030 is a thermo-mechanical stripper with an automatic stripping function. The heaters soften the fiber coatings, making them easier to strip. Temperature and dwell time are easily preset by the user for different applications. Precision mechanics in a small package offer high, repeatable stripping quality. This machine works easily well in a work cell or in the field. Fiber Holder Adapter System for FiberStrip 7030 Quick Change Gripper System for FiberStrip 7030 FiberOptic 7045 The FiberOptic 7045 is acutally three machines in one. It combines the functions of the UniStrip 2545, FiberOptic 7010 and FiberStrip 7030 in one integrated package. It strips the jacket, cuts the Kevlar and strips the primary and secondary coatings down to the bare fiber. The machine is suited for high volume production of patch cords and pigtails. Parameters for different connectors and cable types can be stored in memory and called up in seconds. Individual product datasheets are available upon request. FiberStrip 7035 The FiberStrip 7035 is designed for stripping flat fiber ribbon. Temperature, dwell time and stripping speed are easily adjusted, making it easy for the operator to set up the machine for different applications. A universal clamping system accepts the ribbon fiber holders of most fusion splicer manufacturers. The FiberStrip7035 is the best way to strip fiber ribbon. Optional Adapter and Gripper System Adapter System: Using the optional fiber holder adapter system, the FiberStrip 7030 makes a great complement to any fusion splicing system. Once a fiber is loaded into a fiber holder, it can be stripped on the FiberStrip 7030, cleaned, cleaved and fused without ever leaving the holder. Gripper System: A variety of gripper systems are available to position and hold different fiber types. The standard gripper system handles coated or buffered fibers. Other gripper systems are available for jacketed cable and for adapting to fiber holders.
Automatic Processing Solutions PowerStrip 9500 FO The PowerStrip 9500 FO is a very versatile machine. It can measure, cut to length, strip and slit the outer jacket of simplex and duplex optical fiber cables. This machine is suited for a high volume production environment and can also be integrated with marking and coiling accessories. PowerStrip 9500 FWS The PowerStrip 9500 FWS is specifically designed for measuring, cutting and stripping acrylate coated fiber. End strips and window strips can be accurately positioned along the fiber. The machine is ideal for use in the production of Bragg gratings and metallized fibers. Cable Prep System Additional Processing Accessories Prefeeding Regular dereeling Synchronized, even unwinding Marking Inkjet Hot Stamp Prefeed, Measure, Cut, Coil and Tie For fiber optic cable preparation, (specifically pigtails and jumpers), Schleuniger offers an automated system that enables finished assemblies from the bulk spool. Once the cable is measured, cut, coiled and tied, the ends can be stripped with Schleuniger s FiberOptic 7045. A wire marker can also be integrated with this cable prep system. Post-Processing Crimping Coiling Stacking Tying Individual product datasheets are available upon request.
