The Wing Harp and Drum Orb Long Bow Harps Atom Drum Hawk Harp Ear th Harp Chamber Drum Orb Harp Guitar by Mike Weaks MASS is known for their one of a kind, large-scale long-string and percussive instruments, designed and created by Artistic Director, Bill Close. The Earth Harp, The World s Largest Stringed Instrument, places the audience inside the instrument, as the golden strings span out from the stage and use the architecture or landscape to create a harp 50 1000 feet in length. Together, the long-string instruments create a unique string section, with the Earth Harp playing the bass and cello role and the Longbow Harp and the Wing Harp offering the role of viola and violin.

workshops WORKSHOPS AND RESIDENCIES: MASS offers artist in-residency programs ranging from one week to one month designed to fit the specific requirements of any venue. Based on availability, clients can design almost any combination of performances, installations and educational workshops offered by MASS. Educational Workshops: 1. Instrument Building Workshop - MASS invites participants to create and build their own fully functioning sculptural stringed instruments. The process is very creative, exploring design and construction of tension based materials that come to life through sound and music. This 1-2 hour workshop or weeklong class is appropriate for all ages and participants will truly be impressed with their own creations. 2. Earth Harp Exhibit and Interactive Workshop - This one hour workshop gives participants not only an in-depth understanding of the mechanics and principles of the invented instruments of Bill Close, but also the opportunity to create music with Bill and other members of MASS. No musical background is necessary to participate. 3. Lecture Demonstration/Performance - A perfect presentation for school groups, this 50 minute show includes a short performance of high energy songs while learning about the science of instrument building, sound, vibration, sculpture, site specific installations and interdisciplinary art. The audience will become participants singing, clapping, and dancing, and a handful will even join MASS on stage to play a song on the Earth Harp. These programs get rave reviews, as all of the students have the opportunity to play the instruments after the performance. 4. Yoga and Sound Workshop - In this 2-hour workshop, participants will practice blending yogic movement, breathing and vocalization with the musical vibration of live, long-string music. The sonic vibration of the long-strings create high frequency healing tones and harmonics that provide the perfect backdrop for yoga practice. www.yogagirl.com Residency Sample - Stage Show, Outdoor Earth Harp Installation for publicity and public enjoyment, Interactive Gallery Installation with Solo and Duet Performances in the gallery, Sketches and Photo Exhibit in the Performing Arts Center Lobby, Lecture/Demonstration for School Groups, Instrument Building Workshop, Yoga and Sound Workshop
