1. Introduction This Sales Bulletin describes how existing operators of the BendixKing RDR 2000 Weather Radar System can upgrade to a RDR 2060 System which provides50% more power and additional safety enhancement and pilot workload reduction features. In addition to the upgrade, Bendix King will incorporate Mods 1-13, excluding Mod 3, at no additional cost. If additional items are found that require repair they will be included at no charge unless it is determined, per Bendix King standard practice, unless the unit is Beyond Economical Repair (BER), as declared by Bendix King, at its sole discretion. The result will be a complete refresh and performance upgrade of your existing radar at a third the cost of a new unit. Just return your existing ART 2000 and select the RDR 2060 upgrade and reference this bulletin. Turnaround time at our Olathe Service Center is estimated at less than seven days if no unrelated additional failure requiring repair is identified (see return details in section 6.1). An exchange program offering immediate availability (subject to demand) is also available for a premium over the return process (see section 6.2 for additional details). The RDR 2060 is also available as a new production system. Refer to the BendixKing website https://www.bendixking.com/v4/products/safety/weather/rdr-2060 for additional details. 2. Upgrade Description The RDR2060 system is an upgraded RDR 2000 system utilizing a new version of our more powerful and feature rich ART 2100 receiver/transmitter. This new version ART 2100 fits and operates in the same space and uses identical mounting as the ART 2000. An upgrade path to convert an ART 2000 to this new version ART 2100 has been approved and is now available for operators. The upgrade applies to the ART only, all other system components such as antenna plate remain unchanged. To increase the power and add the features listed below, the ART 2000 is fitted with the ART 2100 magnetron and software providing the additional features. Because these items are already used on a TSO d ART 2100, the operator receives a qualified, field proven upgraded weather radar at one third the price of a newly purchased system. The upgraded ART 2100 will need to be re-configured per the Installation Manual. Page 2 of 8
3. Features and Benefits The following table summarizes the additional features and operational benefits. Typically, the ARL display will show blue areas on the far side of a series of severe weather systems. This cautions the pilot to avoid flight into the blue areas due to the uncertainty of weather conditions. 3.2 Sector Scans Sector Scan allows faster updates on rapidly changing areas by isolating a 60 degree sector. 3.3 Auto Step Scan Auto Step Scan causes the antenna tilt to sequentially step in 4 increments. This allows the pilot to Vertical Profile the entire azimuth scan angle by simply watching successive antenna scans. 3.4 Auto Tilt Allows the antenna position to be automatically adjusted to maintain a common beam intercept point with the earth e.g. if the last 10% of the display is ground returns, then during ascent or decent the antenna tilt is automatically changed to maintain ground returns on 10% of the display.
