With Heather Camern Heather Camern, prfessinal cntemprary dancer, presents Bdy Shakin, Bgie Makin FUN! This is a high energy prgram that explres creative mvement and the art f chregraphy. Students will be lead thrugh a warm up that invites them t take wnership f their wn physicality and persnal style f mvement. Thrugh games and activities students will be lead thrugh a chregraphic prcess that teaches them the three basic cmpnents f mvement: BODY, SPACE and TIME. Using the tls and skills they have develped thrugh lead imprvisatins, they will wrk in small grups t create unique and cntemprary mvement pieces. Please see page 3 fr Teacher Guided Pst-Bradcast Activities. These activities will give students the pprtunity t apply what they have learned during the bradcast. Abut the Artist Heather Camern hlds a Bachelr Degree in Cntemprary Dance at Cncrdia University (Mntreal). In 2005 she mved t Regina (SK) as a c-funder f the FadaDance Trupe, wrking in cllabratin with her chrts t create riginal and whimsical dance perfrmances. As a sl artist, Heather presented her ne-wman theatrical dance shw, Bney Bnes, at the German Internatinal Festival f Dance and Theatre. In 2011 she created and perfrmed Hney n Wallpaper at Regina s Glbe Theatre. Mst recently, she created and perfrmed the cmedic and quirky sl, Waiting fr the Bus, presented by New Dance Hrizns as part f the Prairie Dance Circuit (2016). Heather has perfrmed wrk by Jhanna Bundn, Bill Cleman, Rbin Pitras, Michele Sereda and Turner Prize. DURATION: 45min 1hur Materials/ Resurces fr Activities - Large pen space fr students t dance in, such as a gymnasium r a large classrm with desks pushed against the wall - A whitebard n which yu have written the 6 mvements listed n the Chance Chregraphy List (page 6) - 1 die SKILLS FROM BROADCAST: 1. Each student will have chregraphed 3 mvements that crrespnd with 3 wrds 2. Students are familiar with chance chregraphy thrugh the film clip they watched n Merce Cunningham 3. Students have been encuraged t experiment with SPACE and TIME t enrich their dance vcabulary STEPS - A cmputer with speakers, r ther equipment fr playing music - Music: Heather has created a list f music that teachers can try- see page 5. 1. Create a Mvement Sequence a) Have students spread ut and sit n the flr. Review the cncept f Chance Chregraphy presented during the bradcast. b) Invite 3 vlunteers t share and teach ne f the mvements that they have created during the bradcast. Tgether yu are creating a cmmunal dance vcabulary s that everyne has the same mvement fr each wrd. c) As a grup, explre the 3 remaining wrds n the list and pick a mvement t g with each remaining wrd. In ttal, the grup shuld have 6 mvements ne fr each wrd. d) Invite vlunteers t rll the die 6 times (r mre especially if there is a lt f number/mvement repetitin and if the students are fcused!). After each rll, write the number rlled and the crrespnding mvement n the whitebard. Yu will end up with a list f mvements. Basically, yu are creating a dance recipe t fllw. e) Invite the students t get up, and as a grup begin creating a mvement sequence based n the rder n the bard. Sme mvements may be repeated. Wrk with students t memrize this sequence, practicing it s that they knw it well. (10 min) 2. Wrk in pairs/ duets Divide students int grups f 2. Their next challenge is t wrk tgether t mdify the mvement sequence using space and time. a) Encurage students t find new ways t present the same mvements by varying the SPACE r TIME f the mvement. Fr example, the same 3
mvement culd be dne slwer r faster. The same mvement culd be dne lying dwn r travelling acrss the rm. What frmatin are the students in? Back t back? Near r Far? b) Althugh the rder f the mvements is set, students shuld be encuraged t take creative liberties in hw they present their riginal vcabulary. The students must memrize this sequence, practicing it s that they knw it well. (10 min) c) Once the students have created their duets invite each pair t perfrm their duets (at the same time). Play music while students perfrm. Let the music be a surprise t the dancers each time, always play smething different fr each grup. This can be a fun game fr the dancers t try and stick t their chregraphic plan withut being t affected r distracted by the music. (15 minutes) d) Try having the duet perfrmed twice, but t ttally different music and discuss hw it created a different experience fr bth the dancers and the audience. e) Encurage the audience t watch fr effective mments.
