West End work has included performing in shows such as My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Miss Saigon & many others. Film work has included appearing in the Mike Leigh film Topsy Turvy' and playing on the soundtrack, recording for movies and televisionone of his favourites was playing on Wallace & Gromit's 'Loaf and Death'. As well as a career as a freelance trombonist he has also been Principal Trombone at English National Opera. David has travelled and performed in over 47 different countries and has had a concerto written for him. When not performing his time is taken up with teaching and coaching, specifically at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, University of Surrey, Charterhouse School, Trinity School in Croydon, Lancing College, Epsom College, Reigate Grammar School, Kingston Grammar School, Tiffin Boys, Tiffin Girls and working for The National Children's Orchestra of Gt. Britain, Thames Youth Orchestra and EYSM course. PLEASE NOTE: 1 Competitors should be prepared to attend on any of the above days, but it is possible that Duets may be scheduled in the string section if string entries are in the majority. 2 Please remember that time allowances are generous in all classes. Use of shorter pieces will not be penalised but time limits must not be exceeded. Please observe Regulation No 6 3 Music stands will be provided for all classes, including orchestras and bands. For large groups please submit a seating plan in advance. 4 Competitors may enter twice in Solo Classes if sufficiently different instruments are played. 5 Recorder players may enter all classes for Wind and Woodwind instruments with the exception of Beginner classes, where Descant players should enter Class WB04 and all others Class WB06 We encourage instrumentalists and singers to provide their own accompanists but if this is not possible then please contact Liz Ball

The time limit is the total for the whole programme. The FESTIVAL CUP is awarded for the best performance for Wind Recital from Year 9 & above The FESTIVAL PRIZE of 50 will be given, at the adjudicator s discretion, to the most promising competitor in Wind Recital classes. Instrumental Large Ensembles (Competitive) - 1 or 2 pieces can be played Maximum of 30 performers with optional piano accompaniment. No adult instrumentalists allowed (unless providing piano accompaniment) if fewer than 20 players. One adult may play with 20 or more in a group. Bands and orchestras WB53 Band (includes Brass, Wind and Jazz bands) - Open 15 mins 18.00 WB54 School Band (includes Brass, Wind and Jazz bands) - any age 15 mins 18.00 The JERICHO CUP is awarded for the best performance in Band classes WB55 Orchestra up to Year 8 15 mins 18.00 WB56 Orchestra up to Year 13 15 mins 18.00 WB57 Orchestra Open 15 mins 18.00 The WILLIAM HANDLEY CLARET JUG is awarded for the best performance in orchestra classes. The JOHN BOOT TROPHY will be awarded for the best brass ensemble.
