With an understanding of thermodyanmics the book is easy to read and easy to apply. It covers both thermodynamics cycles and system design. I had the joy of taking a class using this book and it was taught by the author. I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in cyrogenic systems. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is a really fantastic book! By Thomas G. Kreutz I bothered to track the author down (emeritus at Louisiana Tech University) simply to tell him that "Cryogenic Systems" is the best thermodynamics book I've ever read! I had to quickly come up to speed on cryogenic separation of CO2 from synthesis gas. For a newbie to the field of cryogenics, it was incredibly helpful...logically and clearly (and with excellent examples) working its way up from gas liquifaction to air separation. It spans the ideal to the very real/practical. I've only worked through Chapters 3 and 4 (Gas Liquifaction and Separation/Purification), but the pedagogy is really wonderful.
