FALL/WINTER 2015 AUDITION PACKET Read Carefully! Xclaim! proudly announces auditions for three Fall/Winter 2015 productions: Murder at the Banquet (a murder-mystery dinner theatre), Gran s Guide to Stop an Ogre Also Works for Witches and Bullies! (a youth bullying play), and ANNIE, jr. (the family musical based on the Broadway production). The director will select ONE cast per production. It is possible to perform in more than one show, if you have no other extra-curricular activities. This packet covers general information about auditions & casting, rehearsal & performance process, character descriptions & requirements, audition sides and song lyrics for ANNIE. Please see the Audition Sides & Audition Form for further details. Please let us know if you need more information contact info on page 2. PRODUCTION INFORMATION Murder at the Banquet Auditions Sept. 8-12; performs Oct. 16 & 17 The International Association of Mystery Solvers is hosting an awards banquet for the world s greatest detectives. As Foster Holmes, Sherlock s descendant, steps up beside the host to speak, Jenny Watson bursts in. She is protesting her ancestor s role as Sherlock s sidekick! Alas, the lights go out, and, when they come back on, the banquet s host is dead and the prize money is missing. Foster and Jenny must team up with an aging British sleuth, a forgetful gumshoe and a hillbilly sheriff to solve the crime. After another member of the group is murdered, they realize everyone is a suspect and time is running out! Gran s Guide to Stop an Ogre (Also Works for Witches and Bullies) Auditions Sept. 21-26; performs Friday & Saturday, Nov. 13 & 14 Zach & Lilly arrive home from school upset about their day Zach s friend is getting pushed around, Lilly is being excluded by the mean girls who rule the school, and both of them are worried about being called tattletales. Their wise and fun-loving Gran tells them a seemingly unrelated whimsical, magical story... but it might just help them overcome the bullies they face at school. Gran s helpful story comes to life, featuring Jack and Jill, who stand up to a mean and tough ogre and a wicked witch with the help of a wide variety of fairytale friends. Full of fun roles, this production teaches some valuable lessons about bullying with audience participation! ANNIE, jr. Auditions Sept. 21-26; performs Dec. 11 20 Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, ANNIE, the world-wide phenomenon, was the winner of 7 TONY Awards including Best Musical! ANNIE, jr. is a condensed version of the Broadway script featuring the same story, characters and songs. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930 s New York City. She is determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorsteps of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan s evil schemes and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. ANNIE AUDITION WORKSHOP: at the Xclaim! AGATHA: My dear colleagues, after seven decades of solving various murders everywhere from Austria to Zimbabwe, I never thought a day as auspicious as this would arrive. I am reminded of the words of my Great- Aunt Winifred. STANTON: Boy, if stupid was eggs, you d have omelets every day, wouldn t you? Being the chief of police in a place like this, I haven t had the opportunity to solve as many cases as our nominees. But, everybody, just stay where you are! FOSTER: I ve heard enough of this claptrap. Lady, it was Sherlock Holmes and his faithful sidekick, Dr. Watson. If Sherlock was so dumb, how dumb did your great-granduncle have to be? Carter gets away with all kinds of mean stuff when he knows the teachers aren t looking. JILL: I m a princess, or at least I was until an evil witch cursed me and cast me out into the wilderness. Do you think the wizard s ogre spell works against witches, too? I ll help you convince the villagers to help as long as you promise to help me get the wizard to use his spell on the witch. Deal? MARISSA: Here s the thing, Lilly. We ve decided to start a club, and you re not in it. We have top secret club meetings at lunch, so you can t sit near us. Sorry, Lilly. I m the club president. You need to go away now so we can get back to our meeting. CARTER: Check it out! Kyle s got a pink notebook! What is he, a girl? (Everyone laughs at Kyle.) It s probably his diary. (More laughter.) All of your subjects are saying they re glad you re gone, and they never liked you anyway! GRAN: Well now, it s been a while since I had a problem quite like yours, and we talked to each other differently then. None of that L-O-L and twittering nonsense, but I haven t completely forgotten what it was like to be your age. There s a story my grandmother used to tell that I think you might find useful. WIZARD: Jack, I ve come up with a spell that I m certain can defeat the ogre, and I need you to gather everyone in town. I ll get back to him tomorrow. Anyone else? All right, good to see you all again. Grace, if you ll get your notebook and who is that? The orphan? But that s not a boy. Orphans are supposed to be boys. Daddy Warbucks (2): Annie, I was born into a very poor family and both of my parents died before I was ten. So I made a promise to myself someday, one way or another, I was going to be rich. Very rich. But, I ve lately realized something. No matter how much money you ve got, if you have no one to share your life with, if you re alone, then you might as well be broke. Policeman: Hey you, little girl. Come over here. Call him by his name and if he comes to ya then maybe he is your dog. The next time I want to see him with a leash and a license, understand?
