The First Word In this Issue We continue to find some amazing material to be included on these pages. Of special note are the five high value Columbians on cover. Another beautiful set of Trans-Mississippi large die proofs turned up in the Glass City collection. Three interesting Civil War covers will be found on page five. A large lot of photo essays arrived and it was large enough to take up two full pages. Plenty of marvelous essay and proof material from all periods rounds out this issue. Without any doubt, we are America s key buyer of the kind of material you see here. The Travers Papers (see page 18) This could be the last opportunity to order a set of The Travers Papers as there are only five sets remaining as of this writing. Southeastern Stamp Expo This will be our second year at the Southeastern show which provides me with an opportunity to see my Atlanta grandson Hunter who will be two years old in March. We will have our entire stock of essays and proofs, postal history, Civil War material and fancy cancels available for you to peruse. Hope to see you there January 30-31 and February 1st. St. Louis Stamp Expo After a five year absence we will be returning to the St. Louis Stamp Expo on March 27th through the 29th. It was the Monday after the 2010 St. Louis show that I wound up in the Highland Park Hospital for 11 days. The karma has returned and I am looking forward to the show. It will be delightful to meet old friends both collectors and dealers who make this great show a regular stop every year. New York 2016 Update There still is very little buzz about this huge exhibition. However, in the past month there has been a new surge in dealer booth sales and the booth contracts have been sent to the dealers who had previously signed up. Donna Richardson, the show s Executive Director had a booth at both the National Postage Stamp Show in October and Chicagopex in November. I hope this trend will continue for all WSP shows. It is a fabulous opportunity to reach the core market and build the buzz for the New York show. It is also a major tradition that our big international always participates in our national shows in the years prior to the biggie.
