London Persian English Theatre Festival 5 th Season
London Persian English Theatre Festival 5 th Season Saam Theatre successfully launched the London Persian English Theatre festival in 2013. Arts Council England provided the budget for the 2 nd and 3 rd festivals. However, the Saam Theatre application for the 4 th festival in 2016 was not successful and the festival was funded privately by the Director of the festival and the Artistic Director of the Saam theatre company, Soussan Farrokhnia. Unfortunately, the application for the 5 th festival was also rejected by the Arts Council following the painstaking work of the fundraising team and many meetings with the Arts Council. The Arts Council England explanation for rejecting the funding the festival is focused on short term support for such initiatives and the expectation of the relevant community to bear the cost of further festivals. The Art establishments in the UK argue that the Iranian community is the second richest community in the country and, after almost 35 years of supporting Iranian arts in exile, it is about time that the community funded the cost of cultural activities, like other major communities such as Indian community and so on. This is the basis for this publication to invite supports of independent theatre and the Iranian business community to become engaged in sponsoring the 5 th festival planned for February 2018. The London Persian English Theatre festival is the only independent theatre festival in Persian and English in the UK. It is a forum that brings the independent Persian diaspora playwrights and the second Persian decent generation born in the UK and Europe together. It is an opportunity for artists and actors to develop their theatrical skills free from the limitations imposed by religious code of behaviour and dress. The freedom of imagination and its expression are the fundamental principles for any flourishing form of art. The 5 th festival will be of 4 days duration and 8 plays plus daily Q s & A s sessions following each performance. The audience will vote for the best play of the festival in the final awards ceremony. The Director of the festival, Soussan Farrokhnia is well known and well respected director and actor with many years of experience in Iran, France and Britain over the last 40 years http://saamtheatregroup.com/soussan.html Business sponsors are invited to bear the whole cost of one day of the festival or part of it and, will have the opportunity to introduce their products & services to the audience with the display of their marketing materials throughout the festival. The individuals are welcome to support the festival for any amount within their means. Saam Theatre is looking forward to your cooperation in this effort to assert our culture and heritage in UK.
