ARDEN SUMMER Students entering Grades 6-12 or for those who have just graduated Arden Summer Camps provide exclusive access to Philadelphia s top theatre artists. We offer one-day masterclasses, multi-week camps focused on taking technique to the next level, and a four-week Musical Theatre Studio that gives young performers an opportunity to learn more about theatrical process as they rehearse a fully-realized show. Grade 9-12+: Flip Ahead g MASTERCLASS WEEK Grades 6-8 MON TUE SONG STUDY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Take one day for $50 or the full week for $200 to further develop your skills as an actor! SONG STUDY Monday, June 25 This class will give you the tools to communicate effectively in a musical theatre song using ensemble-based vocal techniques. You will learn how to identify clues in the lyrics and music to enhance song interpretation, effectively harmonize, and how to connect with your audience. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Tuesday, June 26 Learn how to employ vocal and movement techniques to bring specificity and life to a character! GRADES 6-8 Arden SUMMER June 25 - June 29, Monday - Friday, 12-5pm WED THU FRI SCENE STUDY IMPROV MOVEMENT FOR MUSICAL THEATRE SCENE STUDY Wednesday, June 27 Sharpen your acting skills by working with a theatre professional on scenes from contemporary and classic plays. This class will challenge you to analyze text and create believable characters, while honing your performance technique. IMPROV Thursday, June 28 Learn how to think on your feet and act without a script. A theatre professional will guide you through a variety of improv exercises to create characters, establish relationships, and explore short-form comedic scenes. MOVEMENT FOR MUSICAL THEATRE Friday, June 29 This class is being taught by a professional choreographer/ dancer who specializes in musical theatre dance. You will learn a combination and have an opportunity to experience a professional dance call audition simulation. More Camps for 6-8 g
Arden SUMMER Arden Summer Camp offers extended day care options for 6-8th graders before and after camp from 9-10am and 5-6pm! ACTING July 9 20 (Mondays - Fridays only) Final Performance: Friday, July 20 10am - 5pm TWO-WEEK You will learn how to employ key acting techniques while working on both classical and contemporary scripts. Explore exercises that help you become an active listener, create believable characters, and build ensemble skills. At the end of camp, friends and family will be invited to a showcase starring you! COST: $700 MUSICAL THEATRE July 23 August 10 (Mondays - Fridays only) Final Performance: Friday, August 10 10am - 5pm Musical theatre professionals will teach you how to hone your singing, movement, and acting skills while learning how to harmonize, integrate choreography, and interpret a song. At the end of camp, friends and family will be invited to a musical revue featuring numbers you ve worked on over the three weeks. COST: $900 THREE-WEEK
GRADES 6-8 The cost is $10 per session, for a total of $20 for the whole day. Philadelphia Young Playwrights at Arden Summer Camp PLAYWRITING August 13 17 Final Performance: Friday, August 17 10am - 5pm Learn how to write a play through theatre games and hands-on activities. You will get the opportunity to team-up with two other students to write an original, three-scene play about a topic that s important to you! Your work will be presented as a staged reading on the last day of camp for family and friends. COST: $400 ONE-WEEK COMEDY August 27 August 31 Final Performance: Friday, August 31 10am - 5pm ONE-WEEK This camp provides a space to explore what it means to be funny and how to translate that humor to an audience. You will learn about a variety of areas in comedy, such as improv, sketch comedy, and physical humor, and present your work on the last day of camp for family and friends. Whether it s your high school play or a college entrance audition, a theatre professional will give students an opportunity to hear both sides of the audition process. Gain the confidence you need to nail your next audition! To participate, you must prepare the following: Actors: Prepare and memorize a 2-minute long monologue and bring a copy of the text to the class. Singers: Prepare and memorize a 32-bar cut of an up-tempo song or 16 bars of a ballad, and bring a copy of the sheet music to the class. Sheet music must include piano accompaniment. Please note: There IS camp on Friday, August 10. Audition, rehearse, and perform Sweeney Todd School Edition, a darkly witty Tony Award-winning tale of love and revenge, with Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by Hugh Wheeler. Philadelphia Young Playwrights at Arden Summer Camp PLAYWRITING August 13 17 Final Performance: Friday, August 17 10am - 5pm Over the course of a week, theatre professionals will guide you through the process of creating an original play. Starting with hands-on theatre activities that will teach you playwriting fundamentals, you will have the chance to write and revise a threescene play on your own or with a partner. At the end the end of the week, you will work in teams with your fellow playwrights to rehearse and present excerpts of your plays on the last day of camp for family and friends.
